Modern Cloth Diapers??
posted 1st Jan
I have bought 8 modern cloth diapers, with about 12 inserts, over 400 bamboo liners and bamboo wipes.
I was just wondering how many diapers I will need.
My MIL said I will be changing baby girls nappy up to ten times a day.
Any advice?

You need enough to last you until there's enough for a wash and then to allow for washing and drying time.
When I first started out I bought 20, it meant I had to do a wash every 2 days, when we got down to about 6 left.
Now I have 30 and its so much easier, I wash every 3-4 days, DS is 6 months and pees quite a bit.
Newborns will probably only need about an insert each time but as they get older you may need 2 inserts at a time. I have only just started using liners, the fleece inside my pockets doesn't really stain but they're good for an extra layer to keep them dry, then when they're on solids they're brilliant so you don't have to scrape poop off them.

I have a little over 20 and we use disposables at night. It is about right for now, I wash every other day, but if I had started when he was a newborn, I would have wanted at least ten more.

I think I'll end up buying at leadt another ten.
And I think I'll go with disposables at night too.
I was really adverse to cloth diapering but then I did research and figured it is better for bub.
To be honest I just really don't want to be washing nappies every day.

You might need some thinker inserts/booster for night time as they get older. Regular inserts sometimes don't cut it and you have to put a load in to stop them from leaking. I have 5 layer boosters for night, the 2 outer layers are bamboo (therefor can be put against their skin if you want) with 3 layers of microfiber inside. They're amazingly absorbent!

It is so much better for them! They are better for rashes, skin as no chemicals, hip development and studies have even shown children potty train quicker! Plus you can get some cute prints!
Better for your wallet too! You can save thousands by using them for consecutive children too.

Yes, all her inserts are bamboo, and there are a couple microfibre ones.
I've never used cloth diapers so I'm a bit nervous.
I really don't eant them to be a waste of money because they were so expensive D:

I use cheapy eBay pockets! Work like a charm! You don't have to spent a lot on them, think I've spent about £90-£100 on mine, I don't know what that is in dollars. That's for about 30 pockets, 20 fleece liners 30 inserts and 6 night time boosters.

Me too! I love the fact the side snaps overlap so they fit newborns better and have double rows. I've only ordered them off eBay. Have you ordered them off the Alva baby site? They're cheaper ordering direct but I don't know anyone who has to know whether they're reliable.

I have always used the site. It takes about two weeks for free shipping. Once they messed up my order and i emailed them and they got back to me same day, shipped same day, and gave me free express shipping and I got them in like three days from the day I ordered.
So I think they are definitely reliable and have really great customer service. I would definitely recommend them.

Wow! That's awesome thanks, will definitely be ordering from them next time! I put all the pockets in my basket that I wanted... Think there was about 40... I already have 30, really don't think I can justify having 70 all together haha.

Are you planning on having more? If I was, I'd have a million by now and be saying "we'll use them in the next ones too."
But I'm not. My friend posted on fb that her son was pt'ing the other day. Instead of "good for him" the first thing I thought was to ask for her diapers, lmao. She bought name brand and lots of super expensive WAHM ones. I'm waiting til the time is right to ask now.

Haha I'd probably be the same, in there like a hawk.
Yea we do plan to have maybe 2 more, but not for a couple of years. If we do have a girl next though I'll have to buy new ones as a lot of the ones I have are boys prints. I'll probably sell them on or keep them incase we have a boy for our 3rd.
DS is a while away from PTing thank god, still gonna get loads of use out of them yet.
