Sleeping through the night

posted 1st Jan
My DD is 6 weeks old and since she was born I have been waking her up at night every 3 hours to feed/change her. Is it too early to let her sleep and miss a feeding?

Quoting ~mama~:" My DD is 6 weeks old and since she was born I have been waking her up at night every 3 hours to feed/change her. Is it too early to let her sleep and miss a feeding? "

DS has normally woken up every 3-4 hours by himself since he was born...I've never woken him up to feed him. He's now to the point where he'll go between 5-6.5 hours once a night. He's almost 10 weeks. I'm sure it's fine to let her sleep   It hasn't bothered DS and he's still on track for weight gain.

Unless she is gaining slow or has some special issue, after 28 days (the neonatal period) there should be no need to wake baby to feed.

Thanks guys, she wasn't gaining very well after she was born so I got a little paranoid that she wasn't eating enough so I feel like I'm constantly trying to feed her, but as I'm sitting here waiting for it to be 3 to wake her I'm thinking she's doing pretty good and looks so peaceful in her bed lol

My daughters pedi. Had me wake her every 3 hours to eat as well until she reach 9lbs.
She was born 6lbs 3oz went down to 5lbs something.
So I'd keep doing it until babies to a healthy weight.
My daughter is now 4 months and sleeps 10-12 hours at night.
And naps every hour and a half to two hours. She likes to sleep...

I only ever woke my 31 weeker. She was 3 lbs and 4.5 lbs at discharge. All others were early, jaundiced, but willingly slept +6 hours a night. They cluster fed immediately before sleeping though.

slept through the night at 7 days old, the only time she was woken up to eat was her stay in nciu.

But the day she came home she slept through the night, and is 11 months (on the 4th) and still does 11 hrs every night. lol

She had weight issues since birth and still does, but all her drs and specialist say you dont need to wake a sleeping baby to feed them, when they are hungry they will get up.

Now waking them up every 3 hrs in the day is how I got my dd on her strict day time feeding schedual that she still follows today. lol Well not strict but ya. lol

At my LO's 6 week check up his Dr said he no longer needed to be woken up to nurse, so at this point you get let them sleep thru the night if they will
