veterinarian/vet techs dog question!

My dog is almost 4 years old and a pitbull/boxer mix... What is this? It's inflamed and hairless! Is there some sort of skin condition that's typical for this breed? How do I take care of it? It goes away and then it comes back again...  

I'm not sure but my old dog went hairless from a flea allergy

Looks like mange, which is a mite that burrows under the skin.



I'm not a vet or vet tech, my ex had a dog that had it.

It looks like mange to me.. Does it smell? When my sisters dog had mange (she was a rescue dog) she developed a horrible yeast infection from it and her whole body was broke out like that and smelled awful!

I would say hot spot, also called a lick granuloma.

It doesn't smell like anything.

They are caused by excessive licking in the area, usually caused by an allergic reaction or a nervous habit. I personally would use pet wrap and wrap it and possibly use an e-collar to keep them from licking on it.

My female dog is the one who's always licking him! She licks his penis all the time too! I'm amazed it hasn't fallen off....stupid whore... :-/

What kind of food do you feed him? Many dogs are horribly allergic to the corn and fillers in junky dog food like pedigree, purina, iams, science diet etc. if your female is doing this, are they fixed ? that could alleviate this issue. You need to go to the vet and get a skin scrape done to see if there are mites or if it is some other kind of infection. Only the vet can see these things because they are microscopic . Go soon before it begins to get infected, right now it just looks red and irritated but if it begins to ooze, it will be worse for the dog and harder and more expensive for you to take care of and fix.

The female is fixed, the male is not... Although they don't have sex, lol... My make is slow, like Forest Gump, lol...

Lol then it's probably mites or an allergy.
