Won't take a binkie

posted 31st Dec
And practically attached to the boob. He's in the 90th percentile weight and it feels like he just wants to eat all the time. He's 6 weeks and I just don't know why he won't take one. He always spits it out or just chews on it. Any suggestions?

Because he doesn't want it?
Some babies just never use them, not really a bad thing.

He's probably having a growth spurt, it happens at that age. I wouldn't try to force the pacifier on him. If he wants to eat, let him eat.

It's not a bad thing he doesn't want it. It sounds like a growth spurt

My DD is EBF and loves her paci, but will only take the one shaped like a boob from the hospital. I also keep hearing how weird it is she'll take one being breastfed.

My daughter took a binky once. I snuck it in her mouth while putting her on the breast. After that one time she refused. She hates them. It's probably just a growth spurt.

My SO's family keeps talking about how I should give him some formula to help keep him satisfied because they think he's getting too chubby and that's what is really bothering me. I think he is perfect just the way he is and I want to exclusively breastfeed and I read that the binky would help with the only comfort nursing

No don't give him formula. It can cause your supply to go down. And to EBF you shouldn't give him formula.

It's FAR easier to over feed with Formula than it is with EBF DS is the same way... but when he's in one of those "I'm using your boob instead of a paci" moods I'll just wrap him in my moby and breast feed him that way... at least I can get SOME things done when he's like that

That is 100% not true! Breastfed babies eat more frequently. Ignore them or educate them..., or tell them to shut it. Keep bfing your baby as long as you want to. My sisters sons were both enormous babies! One was formula fed the other breastfed. Nothing will help genetics. However they usually grow out of the chubby phase. Don't worry! Don't feel pressured to formula feed your baby if you don't want to.

He'll gain more weight if you give him formula.

My son NEVER took one. I was his paci. Don't waste your money.

Thank you all! And I tried to tell them that he's just a big boy (my SO is 6'9" and I'm 5'10") so he's gonna be big. I've chosen just to laugh them off and ignore their advice. And it looks like my life got simple with him not taking the pacifier!
