Birth Control

posted 31st Dec
So I had my two week post op check up today (had an emergency c-section), things are looking great. She discussed BC with me, I told her I didn't want anything hormonal. She suggested Mirena since we aren't planning on even thinking of another baby for at least a couple years. Anyone have experience with it? Do you like it?

Well mirena is hormonal. You could get para guard. Lasts up to 10 yrs and has no hormones.

My doctor wont do IUDs and I would never ever get one. I had a friend whose IUD ruptured through and caused internal damage.

I have heard bad things about mirena from everyone I know who has tried it. Everything from bleeding for months, to having to have it surgically removed from their uterus, to pregnancy... I'm definately staying away from it. I'm thinking about implanon, but I have heard bad things about it too, and it is hormonal, so you probably wouldnt want it. It seems like it is a mission to find good BC these days lol.

Wow! I am really glad I asked, I am reading this little pamphlet my doctor gave me about it and the scariness it causes if you accidentally do become pregnant on it seem ridiculous to me, doesn't sound like something I want at all.

I had to have my surgically removed it embedded into my pelvis & I only had it for 7 months i also had terrible side effects it made me feel like I was crazy, it caused my face to break out really bad which I'm still struggling with and I had it removed oct 17 .I don't know of anyone else personally that had to surgically have it removed besides myself and either has my dr office that has 8 Doctors but everyone I know has hated it. I also have a titles uterus which apparently it is more likely to perforate/ move which would have been nice if I knew that before I got it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone especially since the doctors checked my strings numerous times and reassured me it was in place and infact it wasn't. They wouldn't have know unless I demanded them to take it out and it wouldn't budget when they did the surgery they didn't know where it was until they did an X-ray.

Look into Natural Family Planning. No, it's not the rhythm method, and it is very effective as long as you follow all the rules. There are a lot of misconceptions about it, but it really is a viable and healthy birth control option. I, personally, will never put another hormonal drug or foreign object into my body to stop the normal, healthy functioning of my biological processes.

We are doing Natural Family Planning too. My OB is teaching it. I'm right there with you. I will not take any hormonal birth controls or insert foreign objects in my body like IUDs or the new thing out that you put in your arm which end up getting lost. No thanks!

This sounds wonderful to me! I'm going in tomorrow, so I will ask my OB more about it then, but can you explain what it is?

Well by now you've seen your OB already. I first learned about it from Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's where you chart your fertility signs and basal body temperature and based on certain rules, you abstain from sex during your potentially fertile period, about a week per cycle. You can choose to use a barrier method during that week, but if it fails (say your condom breaks), you have a high likelihood of conception since it's during your fertile period. What I didn't think of when I wrote was that you can't really do it until you have your first PP period, so you'd be stuck with condoms or whatever until then. But still, it's a good thing to learn about for the future.

That's cool that you have an OB who will teach it to you! Most just want to prescribe something they can charge you for. Most women don't know this, and most doctors would never tell you, but foreign objects like IUD's and implanon (hormonal or not), and even breast implants, can trigger a host of autoimmune conditions.

Nope, I go see my Doc in about an hour lol, but I will still ask about it. My DH is a big baby and refuses to wear condoms ever since we got married   He says that since I am his wife he shouldnt have to wear them. So I would probably just not be having sex during that time at all. I will definately look more into it. Thanks for the info
