One child and counting...

So when's a good time to tell your child that you are pregnant? Should I right away? Or wait? My daughter is six and special needs so I'm unsure of how and when to break it to her. She doesn't do well with change. I'm anxious to just get it over with...how soon is too soon? Or is there even such a thing as too soon?

I would wait until over 12 weeks. Just because of fear of loss.

Honestly? My husband already told our son. I'm just over 4 weeks and our son is 2 1/2. I was going to wait but my husband was too excited and we hadn't talked about it prior.

Perhaps you could warm her up to the idea by getting a baby doll and ask her to help you look after it. Explain that it's practicing to look after a real baby one day soon and then when you feel that she's adjusted well to the change, you can tell her that you've got a baby inside you and give her a definite timeframe like "when the weather is warmer in ___ months, you'll have a brother or sister and I'll need your help to look after him/her just like this one." That way she won't suddenly need to get into a new frame of mind at the drop of a hat and you'll be able to bond over the experience too.

That's a great idea! I think I will do just that. Thanks for the help
