Mama's who have/are successfully BFing....

This is my 3rd child...I'm due in about 10 weeks. 1st baby BFing didnt go well at all. 2nd baby it went better and I was able to make it 3-4 months before I had to buy formula to supplement. And then not long after that I dried up completely.
I tried fenugreek, reglan, "power-pumping". And just couldnt produce enough milk long term. This time I really want to make it further and EBF for at least a year...
What are some things that helped your milk supply?? Do you have any tips/tricks/suggestions that might help me?? THANKS SO MUCH!!

Nursing on demand, Never pump as an indicator for how much milk you're making, plenty of wet diapers means baby is eating enough, block feeding worked best for me, never time feedings just feed until baby is full. I'm sure there's more but these are some key things that helped me a lot. LO is 20 months still bfing.

Dont supplement unless baby is not having wet diapers or Dr has legitimate concern, no paci or bottle for first 2 weeks, put baby on breast within first hour of birth.

I was nursing on demand and eventually tried pumping after nursing to try and trick my body into making more milk. For about the first 3-4 weeks I had and over- abundance of milk and then it dwindled. I am going to invest in a better pump this time (last time I only had a hand pump). when he was just a few days old I had to give him formula b/c I ended up in the hospital with heart complications. After my stay I was unable to nurse for 2 additional days due to the medications/tests that I had. I did pump and dump during that time, but I always have wondered if that time without BFing hurt my ability to produce.

Do u think your supply dwindled because u didn't get as much when u pumped? Because once your milk regulates you can't pump as much.

Everything Your Friendly N00berhood just said! Except I was told by his pedi to wake him up & feed every 2 hours during the day & 3 at night. I didn't know about the "never wake a baby" rule until here recently. He is now 3 weeks old & so far so good.

He would cry and still be hungry after nursing on both sides, even if we had been feeding for an hour. It made me feel like such a failure. what kind of oatmeal?

Really? Because when I was pumping I would get discouraged b/c I wasnt getting but an oz or 2 out. I felt like if I couldnt pump more than that that he wouldnt be able to get more then that either.

The pump is nowhere near as effective at getting milk out as a baby!
