Which is the better deal?

posted 31st Dec
My mattress is done. Springs are poking through and it's uncomfortable and last night, Cora peed in my bed. ugh. I cleaned it as best as I could but I still feel skeeved out by it.

So my options are

A. Apply for a store credit card, buy a mattress, and pay off that credit card with monthly payments.

B. save 100 a month (if I can) and just wait until I can pay cash

Keep in mind that I have about a $550 balance on a capital one card that I am also slowly but surely paying off.

Borrowing money from family is out of the question.

What would you guys do?

I personally would buy one now before the mattress starts causing pain issues.

I'd save and pay cash. You always end up paying more than it's worth when you pay things off over time and I'd rather just own it as soon as I see it

Is there some way you could prolong the use of your old one? Like layer a foam overlay or some blankets on or something?

Also, are you particular about whether it's foam or inner spring? It's cheaper to buy a foam one. I don't know if you have something like this where you are but over here, we have stores that sell rubber items like foam and rubber flooring and such. You can order thick foam which is cut to size and covered for less than buying a mattress in a store

It's been causing pain issues. I just deal with it.

Innerspring is cheaper here. I have a padded mattress cover that I am going to put on once the mattress dries

I've never bought a mattress before so I am so clueless about this. I don't even know what kind I prefer. Harder? Softer? Pillow top? WTF is pillow top?

Me and DH avoid credit cards at all costs. I know we personally would save up for it. I hate paying interest!

Furniture stores around here always have the deals with no interest for 2 years and things like that. Then you could finance and have time to pay it off before the interest.

Maybe find a mattress store that has offers financing. A lot of.the time they give you a year to pay off your balance.without interest. Otherwise I'd.wait. and.save up.

Really?! Here it's like $600 for an inner spring but only like $300 for a foam!

If you go to a furniture store, you should be able to test them and see what you like. I don't like pillow tops because you can't flip them. You can only turn them one way or the other

It's padded on the top side so it's meant to be more comfortable and it is... But I just don't see the point of only being able to sleep on one side of the mattress when flipping it prolongs its life. I'm cheap like that haha!

Yeah I want to be able to flip it. The one I have no cannot be flipped and I hate it.

My pillowtop can be flipped! It's comfy on both sides!
