Eating habits and my MIL

posted 4th Jun
Ok, so my little one is a week and a half old, she is eating 3-4 oz,is this normal for a baby?
btw, my mil has been giving her water with a little corn syrup and says it helps aid digestion and fussiness, but I don't approve!

My little girl will be 3 weeks tomorrow and she eats between 2 1/2 and 3 oz at the most I'm sure thats fine though, if they're pooping and peeing normally they're okay as far as I've heard.

Corn Syrup??? Thats just a shit load of sugar that your baby doesn't need, she needs to stop giving that to your baby.
If you want to help her poop, dilute a little prune juice with water.

The 3-4 oz seems normal but I would check with your doctor about giving the baby anything else other than milk unless she is constipated and in that case the doctor will tell you whats best to give her.

Your MIL shouldn't be giving the baby water or sugar-water, or anything other than breastmilk or formula:

NEVER give plain water or sugar water to a baby without asking your doctor first.Plain water (and sugar water) are even worse than too-dilute formula -- babies' kidneys cannot get rid of extra plain water the way our kidneys can, and so giving plain water can produce mineral imbalance and seizures even faster than too-dilute formula. Sugar water (and clear fruit juices and other children's drinks) are generally just as bad as far as mineral content is concerned. In fact...

NEVER give ANYTHING except breast milk or formula to a baby without asking your doctor first.

Your baby shouldn't need any kind of laxative at this point.  Babies don't necessarily have BMs every  day.  THey say as long as the baby's peeing at least 6 times a day, they're okay...

I would just let your baby eat however much as she would like. I know your MIL is trying to help but corn syrup& water isn't good for your baby at all.
