I hadn't seen the house in about 2 1/2 years ( MIL and I don't speak). Neither had DH but he assured me that it was in good shape. All I see are projects after projects.

Good luck, though. My aunt and her partner bought a house that had gone into foreclosure and it took a lot of work. The walls had to be scrubbed and the water ran yellow from the cigarette smoke. There were a bunch of things like that. But it's gorgeous now.

That was pretty much what it was like. My aunt and I are painting the entire house next weekend. I am hoping that helps.

Aw damn...well, you gotta make the best of it mama. It is your house! Plenty of time now to redo and renovate.. I wish you guys the best of luck.

How could I when I LIVED 1000 miles away. DH was in the Marine Corp. She moved out the day we got there and we moved in the next day. We thought we could trust family.

Don't trust family, especially not a mother in law you don't speak to.. I don't speak to mine either and I sure as hell went trust her! Maybe to her she does think the house is nice... Don't know, just see it like this.. So many people would love to be home owners and now you are. Pretty awesome and you can fix it up!
