Having more than one career.

Is it possible do you think to have more than one career at a time?

Sure. DH is a marine (on terminal leave now though) and he's also got his own gunsmithing business. I also know another guy who is a marine and owns a security business (that my DH works for also). Having two careers is time consuming though.

More than one job, yes.
More than one career, not really.

IMO, a career is a job that you want to advance in. In order to climb your way up that ladder to get where you want to be, you'll probably have to put A LOT into it. So, having more than one career at a time just seems impossible and completely draining.

ETA: I'm considering this career to require over 40 hours of work per week. Doing something small on the side is a different story.

I totally believe you can have more than one career.

For example, I know many people who are professional historians and also professors at post-secondary institutes.

Yup. It often meanis applying oneself more and putting in many more hours. Usually you need a great deal of passion and/or drive to make them both work.
And, very often it's people with 2 or more careers that make more income and have more assets.
