Strange toddler habits.

posted 30th Dec
DD is 18 months old and is okay at using utensils, but has to use her hands sometimes. Well, she gets super pissed when she gets her hands messy and wants me to wipe them off between every bite she takes.

For example, she just ate dinner that involved mac n cheese, and she was frustrated because of the cheese on her hands. I hope I'm not teaching her my germaphobe ways.

DD has some sensory issues and never liked getting her hands dirty. She is getting better the older she gets, but still sometimes it bothers her.

My dd, 19 months is the same way. She is getting better the older she gets though it seems.

I'm really cautious of this, in my family alot of people have OCD about hand-washing and stuff so i have made a point of messy being fun.
I would just follow you LO's lead and gradually try and get her to go a tiny bit longer before you wipe if you are worried.

My DD gets like this if she spends too much time with my OL's despite my explaining to them they constantly tell her she needs to wash her hands and that everything is dirty   i guess just try not to make it a big deal for her

I don't think it's a strange habit, but IDK. Both of my kids do that. They'd eat spaghetti, for an example, and that stuff will get on their hands. They don't freak, freak out, but they get real persistent on wanting a napkin. After they're done with it, they refuse to reuse it, so I'll just take their napkin and hide it so they think it's a new one (I'm not going to waste napkins when it's barely been use, ya know?). They kinda freak out on messes, though. Like if the pasta sauce sort of spilled outside their plate onto the table.. they HAVE to clean it up ASAP.
