I had considered it but was too scared to go all natural. I tried getting in the shower at home begfore I went to L&D it helped for only a few minutes and I ended up crying in the shower becuase I had been in pain for hours. At first the pain was just annoying bad period like cramps but it kept getting worse.

When I was 'passing' my first baby [I miscarried], I sat in warm water for nearly two days. I experienced some of the laboring in my room laying down, and some of it in water...and I would DEFINITELY recommend water births for comfort.

I labored in a birthing tub at home...and ot in the shower a couple times (felt good to stand sometimes, but still be in water). I'm not sure I could have made it all the way natural honestly had I not labored in the water. It really helped me relax and let my body do what it needed to do. By relaxing you can progress faster. HIGHLY recommend it!

DEFINITELY...every time I got out and went to the bed, sat on the couch, etc...was much more intense out of the water. Being in the warmth + bouyancy, takes a lot of the pressure off. I had back labor too.
Edit to add: was easier to practice my breathing techniques too in the water because the contractions were less intense.

I did a water birth with Jenna. It felt amazing [in between contractions] and I loved it. They say that the water helps soften everything up down there, making it a little easier. I would recommend it to anyone. And if the tub has jets, that feels really good too. You should definitely give it a try and if you change your mind you can always get out of the tub and have the baby in the bed. =].

i seriously considering this though as my birthing method when she is almost here hopefully the hospital will have a tub for me.

Go for it! You can always get out if you don't like it. I can't imagnie any woman not liking it because it's like day and night being in and out. I didn't end up birthing in the water (thought I would) but ended up going with the flow of what my body wanted to do, and ended up having him standing up in the livingroom! I think it softened me up too, because I wasn't (TMI) sexually active with my hubby during pregnancy (he thought he would poke the baby and give brain damage) so I thought for sure I was in for a huge tear...but nope, a TINY "scratch" I would call it...nothing to hurt when peeing or need of a stitch. Good luck, and just go what feels natural for you!

my mom had both of my sisters and my brother in water. She said it was amazing and that she preferred it to having the epi when she had me. She told me the contractions were less intense and inbetween them was really nice. She had one of my sisters and my brother in the shower and my littlest sister in the tub. I'm planning on having mine in the tub.
