Nipple Sheilds

posted 30th Dec
Did you use them? Do they prevent the sore nipples or can someone give me the go around?

Used them for flat nipples. They really helped preventing my nipples from being sore in the beginning. My son did get attached to it and weaned himself from it at 8 months. He's still nursing at 2, so the shield didn't affect my supply.

I had to use one because he wouldnt latch on without it... I didnt have sore nipples at all. Finally after 2.5 months of using one we got rid of it. But I'm still a little sore when I dont use it

O okay. I was wondering. I never used them with my first. The lactation nurses told me I had "beautiful nipples" for breastfeeding. Haha.

I didn't have a good experience with them. I had to use them every feeding for the 9 months I breastfed. I was always wishing the nurses never encouraged me to use them.

I didnt like using it but it got my son to nurse. Thankfully he just stopped using it one day. I had to keep offering him the boob without it

They are good as a last resort, but I wouldn't use them unless I absolutely had to. DD's latch was terrible because I had very flat nipples, huge boobs, and she had a tiny mouth. The pain was absolutely terrible evey time she would latch and it wouldnt go away.I worked with an LC and it didn't get better. Finally I tried the shield. She latched perfectly with it! Unfortunately, it took six months to wean her off the shield. I'm glad it was there when I needed it, but I am going to do my best to not use one next time around.
