I saw this article a few minutes ago.

I shopped for groceries at my local Wal-Mart. As usual, I bought a bag of frozen chicken breasts, but this time I checked to make sure the meat was not labeled "Halal." Here's why:

Halal is the Islamic term that basically means the meat is lawful to eat for a devout Muslim. What makes it lawful or acceptable is that the meat has been processed in a very specific way. Unlike kosher food, where the physical processing of the meat is the focus, for Islam it is the spiritual component that makes the meat lawful.

For lawful (halal) meat in Islam, the animal must be killed while the butcher faces Mecca , and either the butcher cries "Allah Akbar" or a tape plays the words over a loud speaker.

I am in the cattle business, and believe me when I tell you that Halal kill plants are CONSTANTLY being cited and shut down by the USDA for horrific infractions. Most of these plants are in Michigan and upstate New York ..

One of the things that halal kill plants are notorious for is putting already-dead animals in the human consumption line. They will go pick up a dead cow off of a farm or ranch and instead of putting it in their rendering tank where the resulting "tankage" is worth pennies on the dollar as pet food or industrial products, they will shackle the dead animal on the normal kill line and process it as human food which is the highest-dollar product.

Since Islam teaches dishonesty (taqiyyah) and no regard for one's neighbor, this kind of sickening behavior is standard.

Halal plants are also notorious for general citations for filth and uncleanliness. I have toured normal cattle slaughter plants, and guys, you could eat off of the floor. Everything is white and men walk around with water hoses and steam guns constantly keeping everything in a state of spotlessness.

Halal plants are filthy. A lot of Halal meat is also labeled as "organic."

Again, don't be fooled into thinking that "halal" means "better." It isn't. I would never, ever knowingly eat halal meat purely from a food safety perspective.

What do you think about this article? I know nothing about Halal meat and I have never heard of it before now, but something about this rubbed me the wrong way.
Especially the "Islam teaches dishonesty (taqiyyah) and no regard for one's neighbor" part.
I looked up the word taqiyyah and I found nothing about being dishonest. The closest thing I found was a Islamic person can deny their faith if their life is in danger. But I'm not 100%.

Eh. I had a best friend that was Muslim. He would only eat Halal meat, so when I was with him that is what I ate too. The yummiest food I have eaten is turkish and persian which only used Halal meat. I think it is tasty. That article is interesting though... I wonder how much of it is true.

Personally I get the impression that the author has something against Islam.

Halal meat has been available in grocery stores for years.

I believe the person who wrote this is racist. The language they are using is clearly full of hatred and ignorance.

I don't eat meat, period.

But I do remember seeing how they bleed out the animals ceremoniously. I don't know if all halal meat is done like that, but commercialized meat is always a gruesome unsavory event, halal or otherwise.

I think it's a bunch of b.s. the whole reason muslims eat halal is because its scarificed under allah's name, and because it's killed humanely. You have to treat the animals nicely, and slit their necks quickly. This is the fastest way for an animal to die, and there are no....'fear' hormones released. I think anyone can see whoever wrote this has a thing against muslims. I'm not saying it's not possible for a 'halal' meat plant to be bad- but has anyone ever researched the meat industry? Disgusting practices of shooting and crushing the animals, having them ankle deep in their own feces, feeding small cows nothing but blood and not allow them to move and selling it as veal... I could go on. People need to stop being paranoid and not believe an article that did not list one single source of proof, except a 'friend' who chances are was just made up. And on top of this, halal foods are targeted for muslims. We buy and sell chicken (halal, from costco) at our restaurant without problem.

Anywho, she's right. The author is obviously biased. All they are doing is throwing words around that most non-muslims wouldn't know. They are making it sound like a ritual or something when in truth it is not, it is for the benefit of the animal.

Lol I know right, it's not like we are breaking coconuts over the animal's heads and bathing in the blood or something.
And as for 'Islam teaching dishonesty' nothing is further from the truth. We are not even allowed to tell a joke that is a lie, that's how far Islam goes in preventing lying.
