3-year-old with Flu

posted 30th Dec
Cameron tested positive for the Flu today. At the doctor his temp was 102.9.

We took it when we got home and it was 101.6, gave him Motrin and he fell asleep
When I took his temp 20 minutes later the first time it said 102.6.

I'm going to keep checking it but at what point would you take him in? He already slightly dehydrated and we've been pushing fluids as much as we can but I don't know how often I should take his temp and when would be the point that I should take him to the ER.

If he starts getting really dehydrated. Otherwise, there's not much you can do for the flu except push fluids and rest. The flu is a virus, so there's not really any medication that will work on the virus itself, only alleviate some of the symptoms. Keep an eye on how much he's drinking and how much he's peeing.

They gave us an anti-viral for it.
He's perking up a little bit so I guess we will just wait it out..

My pedi told me they only worry about a high fever if there's no sickness with it. So if he is sick I wouldn't worry so much about the fever, my pedi said it actually will make the sickness shorter by a day or so. So its actually a good thing. Try to keep him hydrated, that's most important right now.

The paperwork from the doctor said that if he has a temp of 102 or higher to take him in. I think I'll start alternating now.
He's acting a lot better now so hopefully he will start drinking and it will come down.
