Breastfeeding and beer
posted 30th Dec
Just curious how many BFing mommys will go out for dinner and order say a glass of wine or a beer and breast feed either at the same time or shortly after their one drink?
No judgement!

I used to drink a beer, then pump. It can help your supply, particularly stout beers. One is fine.

Just one beer? Yeah.

I nurse before then drink so I can be sure it's out of my system by the next feeding.

Personally I don't, but we don't drink alcohol at all lol. It's usually okay to drink one glass. Going out even if we did drink I wouldn't since that would be drinking and driving.

I would like to know as well. I was offered a drink at my aunts the other night. My hormones were going out of whack, so I wanted one to chill out. But I didn't want to harm my son. So I didn't have one.

as long as you dont have a buzz when you go to feed. and pumping and dumping isnt necessary. i had 4 lactation consultants tell me that

A drink takes the same amount of time to get out of your breast milk as it does your system (one hour). And I've heard that the general rule is: if you're okay to drive, you're okay to breastfeed.

I was curious because a childless man on my FB went into rant about seeing a mommy in a restaurant breast feeding and having a beer. I saw no problem with this since it doesn't hit your milk instantly and one beer over a meal won't hurt. The post got my back up, he even commented to the mom if the baby was going to go for a smoke afterwards! The guy is an ignorant douche!!
