mucous

It seems as though my 1 yr old has alot of mucous that he just can't get out. I've been controlling his cough with honey elixar and vicks. He doesn't have any other symptom besides a runny nose. How can I help him clear his lungs? It doesn't seem to be interfering with his breathing, it just bugs him. Tia
