I don't let DD cry for more then 10 minutes. She hardly ever does, but usually if its longer then that there's something wrong.

like for example sometimes my daughter will cry for less than 5 minutes before falling asleep. Is that still considered CIO? I know this probably sounds stupid.

i would think so..
My son will cry until i walk out the door. And then he is out.. its like 5 seconds lol. I dont consider it CIO.. but there are times I know he is super tired and I will let him cry for a few mintures and then get him if he doesnt relax.. It usually just takes another 20-30 mins of playing and snuggling and suckling for him to relax and eventually fall asleep.

It depends on how she is crying. If she is whimpering crying...I know she'll go to sleep within 20 minutes.
If she is throwing a fit~ SCREAMING... Until she settles down a bit, then I try to calm her. By that point she will stop if I go and get her.
But really if it is like....when she is trying to go to sleep...I dont' let her cry it out anymore because usually that means I know there is something wrong. Usually teething for us, but its different for them all of course.

I always worry about ear infections.

NO not for us, if I'm in the room she will cry until I pick her up, no matter how long I leave her there.
If I leave she knows I mean business. And she needs to STOP.

why does it need a label? if it works for you, and your child is safe, and taken care of... then yeah.... its called smurfing bedtime.

Damn strait.
The way I look at it, bedtime is time for bed!! Either cry or go to bed. Its her choice.

my daughters 3. She wakes up around 7-830 and Ive been putting her to bed by 9ish.She doesnt nap at all so she must be tired. Even if Im in the room shell cry so it makes no differnce where I am. In fact she cries less when Im out of the room because I think she gets the point more. If I take her out of the room or go to her she automatically runs to go play. She can do this literally all night. DD can run a full 24 hours with no sleep. So now I just walk out her room. Its been getting better and better and the crying less and less. Like last night was about 20 min and tonight was like 5

I was just thinking. I dont consider it CIO. I am hoping she finds another way to realize she has to go to bed though.
