My picky eater

posted 29th Dec
...is starting to really tick me off...*sigh*... I do my best to accommodate my 9 year old and make things he likes but I can even make a meal he likes or even says he wants to eat then suddenly its not what he wants. I am by no means a short order cook so whats cooked it what you eat or you go hungry. Well he is almost always the last one at the table. He is always given the option to either eat or go to his room for the rest of the night. He really wanted to play Skylander's tonight and told him he can if he eats half his meal... we all finished the meal at the table and left him to finish eating. he was given the option to play something else besides skylanders.. like his legos or anything constructive but video game was only if he ate his dinner. ..

We leave and I just knew what his stunt he attempt to pull was .. * feed the dog when we weren't looking.. so I set up my phone to record him eating... sure enough 2 minutes out of sight he grabs a huge hand full and drops it on the floor..... 2 minutes later does it again....dog it not even in the room we keep them out until everyone is done eating but of course when he leave and opens the baby gate they go dashing in for crumbs on the floor anyway ... next thing you know TADA he is done.... so I went back and reviewed then showed him the footage.. and he got the " oh smurf I'm busted " face...told him because he decided to lie and be devious with his actions he gets to just go to bed. *sigh*

I really try not be be angry to him .. I mean come on I give him say in the menu as well as the other kids so there is always something they like. I allow him to not eat just no video games or snacks after..... I'm out of ideas... any of you mamas able to give me some ideas ?

Honestly my 7 year old DD is exactly like this! It drives me up the wall and I hate making something and while cooking it she goes "that's my favorite!" then when it's time to eat she goes "I'm not hungry". She does this pretty much every night now and I honestly tell her if she doesn't finish then she can go right to bed. We don't give her large portions by any means so I know I am not "overfeeding her". One thing we do is I save the left overs she doesn't finish and I save them for her dinner for the next night and just make enough for DH and myself that night. It works for us but you can try it to see if it works for you. If not I am sure other mommas have some advice.

I give him about the same portions as the toddlers ... so its not like his plate is over flowing and overwhelming. We save left overs and he will never pick to eat any of them. :p

My 10 yr old DD is the same way. She whines while I cook even tho I know she likes it, whines at the table till she is sent to her room, for her to.finally join the table try it, then say oh I like this and eat seconds and thirds.

We go through it every night, unless its taco night. That's her favorite meal. Lol

But if she does not eat at all she goes to her room and stays for the night till.she eats it, or it gets served to her the next day. I send it in her school lunch. Lol
