Question about starting baby food?

posted 29th Dec
My 4 month old has severe gerd. He has a problem keeping his formula down, he even loses the kind with the added rice starch. His Dr. said to go ahead and start him on Baby Food (with the formula) at 4 months. He's turning 4 months this week, and he's acting starving all the time, so I think it's time to start the baby food.
My question is...what's best to start with? I've heard rice cereal, but he already had a big problem with constipation from the rice starch in his formula. I've also heard fruits and veggies.

What did you start with?

tia for any advice!

Never put the food in his bottle, it's a severe choking hazard.

Spoon feed - don't put anything in the bottle other than formula.

I figured as much. They do make special "bottles" for that purpose, that's why I was asking.

Gotcha.

So what did you all start with? Fruits and veggies?

Why does he want him on baby food already? Solids should b introduced when a baby can feed it to themselves of you want to follow the mos developmentally appropriate practice. This means giving them soft bite sized chunks of food and when they're ready for solids they consume what they're ready for. Research baby led weaning.

Start with rice cereal by spoon.

When you introduce other foods, start with veggies (peas, carrots, sweet potatoes) one at a time and wait at least 3 days before introducing anything else.

I know it's early, but if you notice, in the beginning of my post I said it was because of his gerd. It's not just normal reflux, he's actually been hospitalized because of it. We've been through the ringer

And thank you, I'll look into it!

I made my own baby food. I fed DD that when she was around 5 months.(with a spoon) She didn't really care for eating anything we gave her so I waited until she was 9 months and cut up table foods (whatever we were eating) and let her feed herself.

Awesome, thank you!

I don't think I'll start with rice, he already gets that in his bottle and it makes him extremely constipated. It's awful, I feel so bad for him. But I didn't know about introducing them one at a time, and then waiting. I appreciate the advice!
