Waking up screaming

posted 29th Dec
Posted in my other thread but didn't get an answer and it just happened again...
My LO wakes up out of dead sleep (no little noises that usually indicate he's going to wake up soon) screaming bloody murder. And I mean BLOODY MURDER from the top of his lungs, we have never heard him scream that loud. He calms down after a few minutes, is awake, sniffles a bit, maybe nurses for comfort and goes back to sleep.
He's only 9 weeks so it's a bit young to be having night terrors, and it's not gas (we checked). It might be that he is teething (see other thread) but I'm going to the pedi tomorrow to make sure it's not an ear infection or anything..
Did this ever happen to you and what the hell is it ?! It scares the crap out of me =/

Sounds like LO has a bit of gas or colic... my niece was like that... I'd talk to the doctor about it. And at 9 weeks, could be starting the teething process...

My 2 year old did that when she was a new born, he doctor said it was because I didn't have her wrapped up enough and she felt like she was falling because they don't have good balance and even when they are asleep if they move the slightest bit it can make them feel like they are falling and it scares them.

I swaddled him tightly before bed, normally he doesn't like it but since he was cranky and in pain the whole day he didn't fight it. He was still swaddled tightly when I rushed into our bedroom when he was screaming his head off.

It's definitely not gas or colic. He's never had that problem, burps well after feeding and had colic remedy before bed. He was fast asleep for 4 hours without so much as a peep when he suddenly burst out crying...

Yeah I'm going to the pedi tomorrow to get a final answer on if it's teething or ear infection. He didn't have any cold or runny nose ever though.

That could be a problem too. Does he pull at his ears or anything during the day?

This is what my son did. It's the startle reflex and I hated it! But I also couldn't wrap him because every time I did, he would lay there and fight with the wrap until his hands were free and then go to sleep. I even showed midwives and other mothers my wrapping technique and they thought it was really good! He was just a Houdini and wouldn't deal with not having hands

Heh yeah mine is the same, but when he is a bit sick, or very tired, he can't be bothered to put up a fight and just goes down easily.

Not at all.. Thats why I am worried. He doesn't have any funky smell coming out of either ear or anything.

Hmm odd. Well hope you figure out what's going on and get some relief.

Thanks, I'm going a bit crazy not knowing why he does it, and the poor little guy screams his head off it breaks my heart

my nephew did that. no clue what caused it. he grew out of it though after a little while.

i heard they can have nightmares of going through the birth canal. it apparently is the most traumatic time of a human's life. not sure if that's true or not.

my daughter and son did that starting at 5 weeks. Finding out they both had acid reflux. So when they sleep the acid goes up the esophagus and it burns really bad. My daughter is now 2 almost 3 and my son is 11 weeks. He has it bad right now and is seeing a pedi gastro Dr.
