I don't know if your mom or sister really have fibromialgia, but it is a real condition.

Do I think Fibromyalgia is made up? No. Do I think it's overly "diagnosed"? Yes.

TO ME, fibromyalgia is a blanket diagnosis from when Dr's don't really know what's wrong.

every person I have ever met who supposedly has it tells me they have it after a bad nights sleep or excessive exercise... I am calling bull smurf on that one.

Wow....yeh that is not what fibromyalgia is AT ALL. It is a very serious disease that leaves people crippled in agonizing pain, not just a few sore muscle O.O It also comes with insomnia, chronic fatigue, decreased energy, memory loss, migraine headaches sensitivity to odors, noise, lights, meds, foods, cold, Depression, anxiety, numbness in a few body parts and a handful of other things.

Do you guys use the same doctor? Or are they doctors in the same state doing this? Sounds shady as hell. Your sister is sore from exercising, shocking. Your mom is sore from bedsores and inactivity, I've been through that. It is definitely not fibro if the only symptom is soreness for a damn good reason >.<

Not just talking about that but just what came to mind when I thought of made up diseases. It is annoying because my sister was literally running around all day yesterday and is sore from it today and is laying in my moms room saying she is having a fibro flare up so she won't do anything.

That's just a bad doctor. Real condition, false diagnoses.

Fibromyalgia is legit. and i think it is wrong to question someone who has invisible pain. because you can not see it does not mean it does not exsist. my mother has it and is handicapped. I too in the begining questioned it. but now i can tell it is no joke, it is not a made up condition. i think some times people are diagnosed with it when they may just have fatigue or other problems but the testing for fibro is long and tedious. some may even say it is a last chance deagnosis. but i have seen it up close and personal. it is possible that your family has other conditions such as weight which does not help fibro and can add to the pain and so called laziness.

Yes we all have different doctors. The thing is that all of the symptoms you listed can be caused by just insomnia or being overweight which I am (but I am doing something about it) and my mother is morbidly overweight but apparently lying around is the way to do something about it.

I think a lot of adults/children are being diagnosed with conditions or illnesses now. Wayyyy more than when I was growing up.

Please don't anyone take this the wrong way.... but if a kid is a little slow and isn't picking up social skills as fast as others (which is totally fine, at least to me)... autism is the instant diagnoses. I really hate it. Doctors blanket SO much.

My sister is just lazy. Even when she feels good she doesn't tend to do anything but sit around all day. Won't even help clean the house that she wrecks. It is rare that she exercises or does any running around. I was tested for it. It was an hour of the doctor poking me in places to see how I reacted to it. I am like you are jabbing your finger into my muscle.. yeah that is gonna hurt.

I get it when my Lupus flares up, and it's not me making it up. Even someone gently touching my skin feels like they punched me. Thankfully my lupus has been remission for quite a while, but when I am ill, I would be ready to jump down someone's throat if they told me it was made up.

It's not caused by over exercising or being lazy though. Maybe they have a smurffy doctor who is trying to over sell a drug he/she gets perks for selling?

!!!!

my jaw dropped readong the OP. Fibromalgia is a real condition..and VERY painful. It's people like the OP who make it hard for people who are really suffering to get adequate pain control, time off work, etc..

I don't know if OP's sister or mom really ahve it... but it's real. and.... possibly the pain is why your mom doens't work out... or.. maybe yoru sister works out because she thinks it helps to keep everything working well?
