The "Best" Birth Control ????

posted 29th Dec
So I know everyone is different and responds differently to every kind of birth control.. but I just want opinions.
I have an IUD [the copper one, ParaGard] I've had it since my son was born for about 8 months now. Super heavy bleeding, longer periods, very painful cramps... I've been just dealing with it and it's been bearable until recently. I've been having new symptoms and been thinking about getting it removed. I've had the Mirena IUD , [before having a baby] I don't remember why I didn't like it.. I was also on pills, I forgot the brand but those made me super depressed and crazy. Lol.
What is a birth control that works for you? Brand of pills? I really don't like hormones because I get super emotional but I guess that's better than risking having a ridiculous amount of babies at a young age. Haha.
All comments are appreciated :-)

I've tried just about everything out there; Mirena, Seasonique, LovenEstra, the patch, Nuvaring, Depo, and Implanon. Implanon worked the best for me. No period for the entire 18 months of having it.

Due to a problem with reoccurring ovarian cysts at 14 I had to be put on seasonale/seasonique. You only have 4 periods a year and it regulates the hormones best (at least for me). I LOVED it. My periods have always been painful because of scar tissue on the ovary but while I was on it, my periods were always just a little better and always stopped right at a week, not to heavy either.

The one warning I will give you... PMS is a bitch when you have 3 months of hormones built up lol. But ask your doctor, I like it and plan to get back on it when I get finished breastfeeding.

I do natural family planning & it works great, but you have to be committed to following it & understanding ALL the rules. I used it 7 yrs before TTC with no issue & then for the 2 yrs between my kids & then for the almost 3 yrs since, so a total of 12 yrs. Now before you say "But I am super fertile"...due to miscarriage, we TTC for along time...but every time we tried, i got prego the 1st month trying & that was 10 times....so I am pretty sure fertility is not an issue for me & 12 yrs with no smurf ups is too long to say it's just luck. ;) Like I said though - it isn't for everyone. You have to be disciplined & use a barrier method during fertile times.

I've tried pretty much everything.

In my opinion, the SAFEST for your body is the mini pill. Less hormones = less risk.

The implant in your arm is apparently horrendous and causes pregnancy syptoms and weight gain like any large dose....

The shot, I hear, does exactly what the implant does. It also has a risk of infertility, and you just HOPE it lasts the 3 months.

IUDs are a cervical wall risk so I don't even entertain the idea. Not to mention the ectopic risk.

The patch isn't recommended by anyone anymore, causes rashes, heart palpitations, etc.

The regular pill is easily controlled and a consistent dose, which you can choose.

The nuva ring is good for people who can't remember to take a pill, but I'd say it's more of a risk than a pill because it's it's a high dose of hormones that gets lower throughout the month.

In some cases, the IUD grows into the cervical wall.

I've known one women who had that & another where it perforated her uterus.

Yeah I just started thinking and realized its probably not the best thing for my body to have a foreign object just chillin up in there... Especially a copper one :/ sigh. I know no birth control method is perfect... Although I wish at least

Birth control pills make me crazy too but my doctor switched me to Nuvaring for fertility cycles and it was a lot better (except it made me super hungry).

Would that kill you or just mess up your fertility?

Oooh. Sounds perfect for me, haha. Probably got another 5 years before I could get a permanent birth control, so maybe that'd speed up the process.

Blegh. I cringe every time I hear that someone gets one.
