cravings...

I have the most intense craving for milk and water right now its driving me insane. I've had 3 huge glasses of water and 2 huge glasses of milk in the last 45 minutes. I hate drinking milk but I have this urge to go pour myself another glass, only reason I'm not is because I'm lactose intolerant and I don't want to end up getting violently ill later. Funny thing is this is the first time I've really had a craving during my pregnancy...
Have you ever had an "out-of-nowhere" craving??

You may want to let your OB know. You may have a calcium deficiency which is making you crave it. Which would make sense since you're lactose intolerant, meaning you probably avoid dairy, which is high in calcium.

And if it IS a calcium deficiency, get a bottle of Tums and chew a couple of them every day.

I don't avoid dairy at all actually, I only have a mild intolerance for it. And I've been taking calcium pills since I was 20 weeks because of Charlie horse like leg cramps.

Potassium should help with the leg cramps more than calcium would, but I'd still talk to your doctor about your craving. Your body craves what you need when you're pregnant. Bananas and beans should help with your leg cramps.

And magnesium, too. I get really bad, debilitating foot cramps(the kind that make my foot look physically deformed and I can't stand on it), and the doc said it could be one of three things: calcium, potassium, or magnesium, so I started taking my multi-vitamin twice a day(before I got pregnant, now I only take my prenatal once a day), and it helped.

My ob is the one who told me to take the calcium with magnesium for the leg cramps, so that's what I'm taking... If the craving lasts more than just a day or 2 I'll let him know at my next appointment.

Sometimes a craving is just that, though, a craving. I don't really drink milk, either, but there are days where it is the only thing I want. Unless it interferes with your lactose intolerance, I won't worry too much.

That's why I'm thinking its just a craving. I haven't gotten a leg cramp since I started taking the calcium with magnesium. I simply wanted to know if anyone else had random out the blue cravings because I haven't had any at all during my pregnancy till today.

Yeah, I get them, and for odd stuff. A couple of weeks ago, it was Taco Bell. Everything else I ate up to that point would make me sick, but Taco Bell actually settled my stomach(the irony was not lost on me). I haven't had a foot cramp since I started my vitamins and whatnot, either.

I guess the only other actual "craving" I got was slurpees. That ones still around but its more so because I'm always so damned overheated. Even though its the dead of winter here.

My Cravings have been nothing but pure crap. Cake, cookies, pancakes, waffles. On which butter and syrup are needed immensely. I feel gross LOL. At first my cravings were goldfish, and atm my craving is blueberry pancakes and pringles. This pregnancy is nuts. Luckily I'm still under the 50lbs mark and the OB say's between water weight, baby, placenta, swelling etc., I should lose anywhere between 15-20 just at the hospital and the first week alone thank goodness, and still only have 5 weeks till term. ! Hopefully I've capped out. Lol!
Cravings suck you're so lucky yours is water and milk. Though I crave water ridiculously. I'm constantly dehydrated still for some reason.

Pre-pregnancy, I was a mac-n-cheese nut, I would eat basically any variety. Now, I crave the pre-made Bob Evans stuff in the chilled, pre-made sides section of the market. It's ridiculously expensive, but I crave it really badly and all other mac n cheese smells SO bad.
I also crave Cola (yes, I know, caffiene).
And orange juice. I started having to buy the cheaper frozen concentrates because I go through an entire container in a day (I still buy the 100% juice ones, I feel a little less guilty about it) and I eat Tangelos like they are going out of style.

Its actually OK to have 200mg of caffeine a day. I can't function in my morning without coffee ever since I can remember lol. So I asked my ob and he said its fine. A can of coke only has 34mg of caffeine in it.
