re: How do you get someone to stop smoking?

I told my husband, then fiance, that I wouldn't marry him if he didn't quit and get a career. So he joined the army. Had to get clean first and has to stay clean.

I love my Fiance, I wouldn't make him chose. He knows I'd marry him & I'm here for him forever. I just wish I could do something.

He needs to get out and find a job! maybe you can try to motivate him with that? lots of decent paying jobs drug test.

I told SO that I didn't want it around because I didn't want ANYTHING to be in my house that could have my baby taken away from me. My child is not worth a drug.

Uh yeah, thats an entirely different scenario than what you made it seem like in the OP!
I would not be okay with it, he can't even afford it for crying out loud. Frankly, it's a "luxury" and he can easily quit, you cannot be addicted to marijuana.. He's addicted to being lazy.

He's actually going through a Temp Agency, feeling it out tonight & they said they'd call him back in 3-4 days so keeping my fingers crossed!

Might, but hasn't in 3 and a half years.. I mean he does it a lot but when it comes down to it , he is there if I absolutly need him.

I honestly think he needs to go speak to a therapist. He probably has underlying issues. I don't care how many people on this thread say that you cannot be addicted to weed. You can. Maybe not the pot itself, but the feeling of being high. Trust me I take substance abuse classes in college and I have seen it first hand. My brother and brother in law are both miserable when they don't have pot and the minute they have it they are complete again. Just because it hasn't made you addicted, doesn't mean it can't to someone else.

  it's just so annoying to see someone so reliant on marijuana lol I go through it everyday with my brother so i definitely know how you feel... Except its your SO. my brother doesnt have a job so he waits for his child support money to come in from my dad and then goes out and spends it all in pot. :eye roll: He's waiting to get in to talk to a counselor, he's admitted to having depression. Not saying that your SO does but it's definitely a possibility if he is miserable without it. It's a coping method they use to escape. I wish you luck and hopefully he gets the help he needs... It's tough for some guys to admit that they ever need help....

you need to have a serious talk with him let him know how it makes you feel & be a support system ..

My hubby smokes cigarettes. He does at least go outside to do it. I've asked him to quit since the day I met him. He won't even attempt it. He says he doesn't want to. So I just told him that if he ever dies from lung cancer, don't expect me to be at the funeral.
