No one to watch DD

posted 28th Dec
Okay, if I happen to go into labor during the day on a week day we have no one who can watch DD. The only couple we know who lives near us both work during the day but if I go into labor at night they can watch her. Everyone else we know lives 45 minutes away in the opposite direction of the hospital and our families live 18 hours away. I was only in labor for 5 hours with DD so chances are good that this labor will be faster. Anyone not have anyone to watch watch their kids while in labor? What did you do? I'm very nervous.

could you have family come into town for the week of your due date? that way they'd get to meet baby, too?

I've never been in that situation, but I'm guessing your so will have to watch her while you're in labor?

I'd start looking for a daycare that will take kids for emergencies like that.

Or as soon as you know you're in labor, call someone who is 45 mins away and have them pick her up at the hospital. Make sure you have someone prepared for that call though.

Drop in daycare? Most places are fairly inexpensive like 5-7 an hour.

My first labor was only 5 hours too.

When I had baby #2, we lived near family and had a plan for my mom to pick up DD when the time came, with my aunt as a back up.

Wellll... my labor was only an hour long and my son was born just over 30 minutes after we arrived at the hospital, so there was NO time to do anything with DD, she saw the whole thing. I obviously had to go naturally because of the swiftness, so she saw me scream and the whole nine yards.
She was 3 1/2 at the time and was a bit scared at the time, but went to school the next day and told her friends that mommy screamed and she peed a baby out. Lol.

It will be a year ago on January 18 and she isn't traumatized. If anything, it was kind of a good, if not harsh, but interesting life lesson for her.

Don't worry, no matter what it will all work out any way it happens

Also, you can't worry about daycare if you go into labor at 4am like I did.

Lol.

There are worse things than having your other child watch new life come into the world though, honestly.

MOST people don't go into labor and boom have a baby. There's usually a few hours that you know it's happening and then you can call someone to come get her. My hospital has an enclosed courtyard even with a playground for children. It's surrounded on all sides but PP rooms the doors lock and stuff BUT it's outside. I will probably take my son until it's time to push or whatever then have my mom take him out to the waiting room.

I prefer not to have family come out because to be safe they'd have to come out like tomorrow to be safe. I'm contracting every 3 minutes but I don't feel them. I could go anyway now or it could be weeks from now. I really prefer not to have company in our house for so long. I'd rather have DD at the hospital with me. Lol which looks like my only option anyway. I don't trust many people around here to watch DD because o don't have any personal friends. Everyone I know is friends with DH but there is another friend of his that I would trust. We might have to ask him and his wife to come get DD at the hospital. She's 4 and I worry about her being in the delivery room. She gets really upset when she sees me in pain. However, if thats my only option at the time I guess I will just get an epidural so she isn't scared. Lol

I am having a similar issue, but my daughter is in daycare. My problem is that her daycare closes at 5 and my dad doesn't get off work until 8 in the evening. If we get stuck in that three hour time frame I have no one at all to watch her. And here you are not aloud to have children in the room to even get an examination done so I have no idea what to do!!
