I dont think people would save that much money unless forced. There are too many toys that they desire.

Yeah, its redic. Im hoping that when they get the healthcare exchanges in place that things may get better. but, realistically its going to get much worse first.

Oh yeah, for sure. I have it pretty good, I guess, I have a government job and the health care options we have a really decent, but before this job, I was uninsured for years and I have some major major dental work that needs to be done.....even with my insurance, I am looking at 5K+ to have them fixed, so I am getting dentures.....at 23, it's sad lol.

That's a tad dramatic. If someone goes to the doctor for a head cold, they're not using their brain.

Agreed.
I was raised to be responsible and self-sufficient and to not have children until i was solidly on my feet, educated, career-tracked, married to a similar guy, and had a mortgage and savings.
BUT, lots of couple struggle in the beginning and i think that is OK as long as they are self-sufficient and have a plan that is in progress.

Dental is expensive with or without treatment. You should shop around to different dentists and see what someone can offer you. I know that a lot of dentists will discount you with a work plan if it's a large work area.

My mom taught me to be responsible by showing me what not to do.We were always struggling. I don't want that for any child.

I don't think you have to wait to be rich to have children, nor do children need to have everything...now expecting the government to finance your child is another matter...falling onto to hard times yes but happily signing up for every program is always amusing to me a right of passage so to speak.

Trust me, I have needed this for years and years, I know that 5K for what *I* need to have done is a good price and in the end, I am sick of my teeth and I am missing quite a few in the back anyway, so dentures it is.

Not really - yeah it's stupid to run to the doctor for a head cold, but if you have an infection you need antibiotics and you can only get those from a doctor, which I think is freakin ridiculous, IMO. Not all places have health clinics, it can cost hundreds just to be seen + meds - it adds up incredibly quickly. I've personally been lucky in the sense that even when I was uninsured, I had a health clinic that only cost 15.00 for an appointment, but that's definitely not available to everyone.

Honestly: I think that's also part of the problem... people not using their brain. Look at the emergency care system we have going on. People abuse the emergency room a lot. Many of them can't afford to put up the money to get in to see a doctor so they visit the ER because they know they'll be treated, then stiff the hospital. OR people who have medicaid go to the ER instead of waiting to see a doctor because they don't have to pay the high bill that comes out of it. Medicaid pays far less than private insurance so the hospital bills everyone else to make up the cost.

And people call me crazy for using recipes for ancient herbal remedies. The only time we see a doctor is for either my psoriasis or a medical certificate for work.

I wish I can say the same   I do use homeopathic remedies for the kids and myself as much as I can but I'm chronically ill for a variety of reasons. And I've learned some things you just can't do at home. My last ER trip was for trying to avoid an ER trip
