re: financially stable D&D

I'm having a baby at 37.

If you want to have a baby and you're willing to do what it takes to support it, then have a baby. You shouldn't have to look to strangers to validate your decision. The younger you are, the most time you'll have with your kids. My aunt had her first and only at age 42. Now my cousin (who is drop-dead gorgeous, smart, and talented) is 23 and facing the prospect of losing her mom to cancer. The decision about when to have kids is about SO MUCH MORE than money.

In the end, you're gonig to do what's best for you, your family and your situation.

I have to ask though: are you going to be prepared to have two children while being chronically ill? There are many many times I wish I had stuck to the one. It would have been a lot easier to deal with.

Amen to that. A lot of people don't understand that sometimes there are circumstances that are more important than having a years worth or salary in the bank.

If people waited until they were super financially stable then some people would never have a baby because something always pops up that needs paying... a surprise bill, new boiler system etc. I think as long as a family can house, feed, clothe and provide the basics then everything else is just a bonus.
Now, 16 months after having Eva I can truly say we are financially stable (by that I mean after all the bills and essentials are paid we still have spare money at the end of each month for savings).

I said case in point to your sarcasm....since you answered in sarcasm....when I assumed you were being sarcastic.

Is there someone advocating having a year's salary in the bank?

Unless I read it wrong, it was in the past few pages.

It may have been a different thread entirely, I have too many tabs open at once lol.

Its part of my criteria for myself. But after reading this I think having a years worth of living expenses is a more accurate depiction of my philosophy.

You think everyone should wait until they have that amount saved?

Your joking right??

Assuming she is in good health right now she has a 35% chance of concieving and her risk of miscarriage is around 15%
If she waits until after 40. Her chances of concieving in a cycle go down to 5%, her risks of downs is increased dramatically and her hands of miscarriage is 50%.

Don't even get me started on live birth rates for women over 40.
Honestly your post sounded ignorant..

No 40 year old I know... What a small sample group you have there to match up against very real statistics.

in an ideal world, i agree. i have high standards for myself, BUT i think it's too much for most people.
Based on what you do for a living, I'm sure you see that if people raised their standards and had a plan, there would be VERY few people needing public assistance.

At 29, she has a better chance than thirty-five percent at conceiving.

I think between my job and my upbringing this is why its my ideal. I don't think its really much to ask to have a years worth of expenses covered. I think if we could get the whole healthcare thing under control, it would be more than possible for many people.

I think thats true. I think a lot of people are in debt up to their eyeballs and are constantly afraid of getting even a head cold because it may mean hundreds in doctors bills.
