It's totally possible, we have two years saved. We knew we wanted kids so for two years we saved every single penny we could. We lived wayyyyyy below our means, and I worked at a coffee stand part time too. It's all about hard work, most people are not willing to do it and want instant gratification.

And if you get pregnant on accident and have one kid already, you can still do it. You don't need another child right away.

Like I said my aunt does now ... she has something like 28 million in the bank right now. Yet saying that she never had an entire years worth of her bills or wage in the bank until she sold her business.

maybe in america its possible to do that. The only way I could be in that situation any time within the next 10 years would be if I sold my house (we have around $70,000 equity), and moved into a one bedroom apartment in a low income area.

That's what I grew up with and what I'd feel comfortable with /shrug

My dad was making the low end of 6 figures when he married my mom. 14 years later he's on the high end of 6 fig and I'm fairly certain he has 7 in savings. Though he's sketch as hell with his money and my mom and I think he's hiding it so he doesn't have to pay higher cs on my sisters.

Yeah, it's not fun. Especially when you think you already are covered then BOOM apparently insurance didn't think the helicopter ride to the NICU was a necessary expense   smurfs. I think it's pretty smurffy that in order to qualify for good medical care in this country you have to be at poverty level. People who work full time for more than minimum wage are screwed.

My parents saved but not a years of pays worth lol and to this day they still don't.

Idk. I am a.single mom of.3 right now and I do.save money each month, but hell it would take me years to do what I make. But my kids still.play sports we do movies twice a week we splurge every day on stuff lol.

I would definitely have another on what I have if I had the choice too. Lol

Bills are always paid on time, food is always in the house and don't eat boxed foods. We eat out tho.

And again, I did not say a years worth of pay, I said a years worth of living expenses.

I don't think that being able to provide for yourself for up to a year if anything happens is a ridiculous stipulation to be considered financially stable.

Oh I wasn't saying anything about that at all. Lol I know I quoted you back. But I was just saying what my experience in how we live is like. Lol

People make too big a deal out of money.

You don't need to have everything in its exactly right place to start a family. I started my family fairly late and wish I had an extra 10 years with my kid(s). In my 20's I made plenty of money. DH too. Then the recession hit and we were in a position to either have kids and muddle through it financially or just never be parents. Now we're old and having another baby, and it's just...ugh, wish we had switched the order around a little.

If you already have young children and you want more, you might as well go ahead and have them so that you can get your career going when they're not babies anymore. It's good for kids to see their parents work hard. Stability is important, but it's not all about *financial* stability. Doing what you need to do with your life is way more important than how much you have in savings, imo.

- at my current saving ability it would take me 8.6 years to save up.

That sucks.

I'm 29 now ... if I had to wait 8.6 years to have another child I just wouldn't be bothered.

My insurance stated they didn't cover nicu at all! I didn't even know they could legally do that. I feel we got royally screwed being responsible and paying for the best insurance offered by the job my husband had at the time.

I just like advice. Everyone in my life is telling me to go for it .. but then you hear things like you should have X amount saved up.
