Like I said, I did that the frist time, and look what happened, it was taken away from me in a heart beat.
Now Im almost 35, my son has a clear bill of health....so in your idea, my family should not continue because we wont be able to live in the lap of luxury?

I don't think you need millions lol, or even an entire years salary. We live p2p right now, and I don't feel stable. I would feel so much better if we had... say... 10k in the bank. For emergencies, for home/car repairs/replacements. You never know.

I earn 55k and I could not comfortably support a child on my own. No way no how. So no babies for me.

No she doesn't think it would be fair to a child ...she had a still born when she was 20 and I think that affected her to. Plus she's worked HARD her whole life and I think she just wants to settle down and enjoy life now.

Just on a side not though...in real emergencies 10k isnt gonna help that much.

I don't think anyone should be "allowed" to ttc. You don't need permission from anyone to do anything with your life or body.

But I think people who are ttc while barely making it, without emergency savings or a backup plan are idiots and yeah, I judge them.

but you said at least $10,000 ... that's not possible for most people. Especially people like me who refuses to get store credit or a credit card and prefer to pay for everything in their lives cash.

No, 10k is what I would feel comfortable with.

Also I think the most accurate description of "stable" I can think of is having at least a year's worth of expenses in savings, and a steady job you've had for longer than a year. I think you can be stable while renting, so I wouldn't consider owning a home to be a requirement. And you don't have to be able to buy everything new, but you should be able to buy everything in good condition if you get it second hand. You need to be able to make all your bills with leftover money to spare comfortably and have an emergency plan in place for if you and/or your partner lose your job, you house burns down, someone gets injured, etc.

but how is it honestly possible to have a years worth of salary in savings? I don't know anyone who has that ... even my parents who have a property portfolio or my best friend whose single with no kids and saves like crazy.

A years worth of bills.

I would have had that saved up within 2 years if I hadn't had an oops pregnancy. My income much exceeds my living expenses.

It is hard for me to imagine ever having my entire salary in the bank.

I agree.
my parents raised two kids owned their own house and make 350.000 a yr and don't have that in the bank. And they and me and my brother grew up very well, exspensive trips and clothes several times a year. Etc...

I have never met anyone which has saved that much money
