re: financially stable D&D

I do think you should be financially stable effort before ttc.

80k puts you at the middle level for income levels which is actually really good for Australia. Many people live off much less.

Are you going to be able to get the paid paternal leave? Do you plan to take a lot of time off work?? And how will all of that affect your financial situation.

My brother and sister in law would earn.. 120k between them, and they'll be ttc in the next year or so. My sil has always said she would like to be at home til her kids are in school but in reality, if they want to have a lifestyle where they can get new cars every few years, take holidays and not stress about not seeing their mortgage move for years.. She will have go back to work after a year.

I don't think I'd include Daycare in the "assistance" personally. Daycare is expensive for everyone.

here you get it as long as you earn under $180,000 a year individually

I would consider your 'situation' stable, in my eyes. The living paycheck- to- paycheck would bug me, but since your expecting a promotion, ect.. I'd maybe wait another 2-3 months to see how that makes things, other then that - GO FOR IT!

As long as your working, paying all bills accordingly- plus anything you may need, are not on assistance, have some sort of savings, not drowning in debt and not at risk of losing your job... sounds stable to me.

Even the most stable people can change in a heartbeat. So just do what you wanna do and the money will work out in the end. You will wait forever trying to get te perfect time.

I'll be eligible for paid parental leave ... I also have the option of working from home for a few months as well as long as I'm happy to do the graveyard shift.

If you had asked me this last year I would have said yes for sure.

When we TTC our son I had got my dream job, was making $80,000 a year, SO makes $45,000. We bought our house. Have retirement savings. Have our own paid for vehicles. We were debt free.

My son was born with cancer, and last year my job 'ended my contract'. We believe the reason was I am a liability due to my sons health condition.

I am now living on unemployment that will soon run out. I have applied to over 100 jobs. So far, no offers.

And we decided last month to TTC and we did!

I use to think finance was important. But now I know family stability is more important for me. My family has been through hell and back and we are strong as rock and I know everything will be okay.

I think others who think money is more important may be lacking the comfort of family security.

I don't consider that assistance because it encourages women to get back into the workforce and that is good for economy.

I think if you feel you can afford another child go for it.

While I don't agree it's a good situation to TTC while still relying on government help or anything like that. I don't care if people do if, it's just something I personally wouldn't do. I still get government assistance but I don't rely on it(except at Christmas haha, with all the changing pay dates)

It is expensive. But if the government is paying it, it's assistance.

I think you should be financially stable before TTC. To me that means no debt except for mortgage/car, not living paycheck to paycheck, are able to maintain your chosen lifestyle without credit cards, have 1 years salary saved and have some money put away for retirement. BUT anyone with a brain knows that circumstances can change in an instant. Have a preemie with a 100k medical bill your insurance won't cover? There goes your stability.

Owning your house outright will not happen until you pay off your mortgage. I don't classify a mortgage as debt as it is a investment into your future.

As for small debts they are always there. If you are working on getting them paid off and only living within your means you should be fine. I feel 79000.00 is a good yearly income. Havin a child with that income is fine. Our parents raised us with way less.

If you feel you are ready to have a baby that is up too you. I was a single mother And no child support so I never thought of finances when me and my husband started to TTC as I wanted another baby and for me my biological clock was ticking more. But that being said as well being financially stable is easier to pay for everything and save for emergencies. But my husbands income without me is 150000.00 if I worked we would be around the 200000.00 mark. So we have savings and are obviously are financially stable. But we also have more payments then you in 2 new vehicles and small debts.

If you want to TTC that is up too you. Money shouldn't stop you as you as the adults just live on less and provide for your children.

Money is such a small factor in what it takes to raise a child. All long as all the childs needs are meet then why not have another baby?

I'm so glad Australia has free medical care in hospitals. I couldn't imagine the stress of a preemie and then a massive medical bill added on, it would be so horrible

I think that if you can afford housing and food and all basics then why not. If you are not needing to borrow money and can live within your means I say go for it.

You don't need massive amounts of money just enough money to live comfortably Kwim?.

Kids don't need a lot other then a roof over their head food clothes and basic toys and of course family and love.
