Emergency extraction
posted 28th Dec
What would you consider to be 'emergency' in terms of needing a tooth pulled?
My mom is disabled and on Illinois medical card.
They will only pay for dentist visits if it consists of an emergency extraction.
Earlier, her tooth cracked in half, and half fell out. [Up and down, not side to side]
Now her nerves are all exposed, etc.
Do you think they'd do it?

I would think that's an emergency.

I've never heard of an emergency extraction but that sounds kind urgent. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't. Good luck to your mom and I hope her mouth starts feeling better.

Definitely sounds like an emergency to me.

It is possible. I had nerves exposed from a broken tooth and they did an emergency extraction. I had a very bad infection with it as well though. I would have her call the dentist and see what they consider a emergency extraction because it will be in the way they code it to her insurance. I would check with them first. They may be able to call in a prescription for antibiotic and pain killer without being seen. Hope all goes well I know how horrible the tooth pain can be

I would consider than an emergency, but it's really up to the dentist.
In the meantime...my SIL just had a filling come out and she bought this putty stuff at the drug store. It's meant to be a temporary fix until you can get to a dentist, and she said it really helped the pain.
