Neighbors rant

posted 28th Dec
OK I live in an apartment with my husband and 18 month old. At first it was going really well until the kids started playing practical jokes on neighbors including myself. I talked to the landlord and of course he brought the jokes to the attention of the parents... he also told me that it was perfectly alright to get on to the children myself if they disturbed my family again. Now we have a new neighbor that lives right above us with a few friends. That agreement is that there is a noise ordnance starting at 10pm, no smoking in the units due to connecting vents, and vehicles must not have a booming bass. All three of these are being disregarded... loud parties and heavy footsteps starting at 2am, smoking in the units (have witnesses and I can smell it due to being pregnant), and every night at 1or so they park right in front of my windows with their cars booming. Not only am I not getting good sleep but neither is my son. I just thank goodness that the landlord will be coming by on the 30th to collect rent... no way we can miss him.

If you are one of those people that bitch about every single thing that happens, every single noise, smell, ect then I feel sorry for your neighbors. Seriously. I can understand the being loud thing, but quit nit picking.

When I was pregnant I thought I was going insane because I kept smelling weed. Turns out my neighbor was smoking every night. Once we discovered that we laughed it off and the neighbor would come by to ask if it was going to make me sick so he could go to his girlfriends across the streets. Maybe they don't know they're bothering you?

She's not nit picking. She pays rent and is expected to follow the same rules they are. If they wanted to smoke and be loud, they should have picked somewhere else to live.

Booming bass... is this sitting outside in the car shooting the smurf for an hour while music is playing, or is it "Im pulling up to my unit and the bass is on but gets turned off when the car is turned off." If it's the latter... it wouldnt bug me.

What kind of practical jokes are the kids playing? Water being dumped on someone as they walk under a doorway? Or a BOO! Im going to jump out and scare you thing? Kids are kids, just how bad are these jokes?

Parties can be a nuisance... but heavy footsteps... thats a building problem not them.

I had the same problem with my downstairs neighbors smoking and the vents. Why should I be forced to breathe someone else's secondhand smoke in my own home? When it's something that affects your health (and your child's), it's not nitpicking. Same goes for losing sleep due to their noise. If these neighbors signed a lease knowing these rules, they need to follow them or leave.

The bass stays on for a half hour or more, the kids' jokes are knock on the door and once answered have a ball thrown at your face, the renters are made known of the vents once they read the lease, and they are made known of each of the neighbors' situations including us on the bottom. I pay rent, keep my unit up, and follow all the rules. I should not have to deal with someone that is not going to follow the rules and possibly make my children and me sick (we are allergic to cigarette smoke). I am not nit picking... I am looking out for my children like any mother would. I am glad a good bit of you agree with me.
