yes, i think that is a really good thing. i think you need to ear it from someone professional to tell you that it's okay to care, but you have to let the responsibility go. it's not easy. i know i have struggled with this in short relationships not involving kids, etc. so... it was easier for me. but it will take you a little longer, i think. good luck to you!
