Different formula- Question

Will it hurt my 7 month old to get Gerber Good start, Similac and Breast milk? I breast feed but have had supply issues recently and started supplementing with Similac, which is what my daycare provides free whe he is there. WIC will only let me get Gerber Good Start. I am still breast feeding. I think he'd get about 3 bottles of similac a day, and 2-3 of the good start at home.

idk...i wouldnt be mixing them. maybe try to just switch her over to goodstart? goodstart was harsh on my sons belly.

Here wic will let you switch brands if you get a note from your pedi. Switching between formula brands can make him gassy or upset his tummy

Have you tried taking fenugreek to help your milk supply? It would be easier, cheaper and better for both of you than getting formula!

Yes. I have tried tons of things. At this point I am over stressing about it.

When ds was little I didn't know switching up was bad. We got lucky and he never ha problems with it. Even now he's almost always on gerber but from time to time in a situation with no other option he has a random fe bottles of something different. But I guess it depends how sensitive their tummy is.

I would just try switching him over to the Good Start gradually. At 7 months, his tummy shouldn't be quite as sensitive and he will hopefully switch over pretty easily. Make him bottles using 4 parts Similac to one part Good Start, then gradually reduce the Similac and increase the Good Start til you are using all Good Start. If you find he is having serious tummy issues from the change, then see if your doctor will write a letter to WIC for the Similac so that they will cover it.

Don't stress about it. Formula is better than letting him starve. You've been talking about breastfeeding for so long, I know you tried. I would talk to your doctor about getting a note for WIC to switch. I did that. They would only give me similac but he needed Nutramigen by Enfamil.

WIC told me today they only give out Gerber Good start and they can't write a Rx to have you swtich anymore.

I am still nursing, but mostly for comfort for him. He is a lot happier now that we have swtiched and gaining weight finally
