does WIC really help?

I had to get medicaid for this pregnancy until SO's insurance kicks in and we officially tie the knot which would be in a few months. when i applied they ran me for all assitance i guess and told me I can get WIC if i wanted.
did it really help you? was it worth it having to drag your kids to the appointments and stuff like that. IF you breastfeed do you still get formula? TIA

When you breast feed you don't get formula, but food to keep you healthy. It helps with the essentials, like milk and bread. I actually got more milk than needed.

I have medicaid with this pregnancy so I'm eligible too, but I am not getting it for me, just when LO is here in case we need to do formula. They give pregnant moms and breastfeeding moms food, and formula fed babies formula, breastfed they may give you a pump.

Tat I don't know, since I only have one. I'd assume they may? It wouldn't hurt to try, after all, it's free help.

When I was pregnant I got 6 gallons of milk. Peanut butter, cheese, eggs, bread, juice, cereal, if you breastfeed you will still get same amount of food

I had wic for a while. I was using formula so that helped. It also gives you baby food, cheese, peanut butter, beans, and bread.
I stopped going when they told me to undress DD and put her on a scale that clearly had urine on it and told me she was failure to thrive.

yeah id probably just want it for formula if i couldnt BF for some reason, that smurf gets expensive. otherwise, ive never used it before, and we have been fine but with 1 more person in the house im wondering If it would be worth it, every little bit counts? Im starting to use coupons and stuff and trying to help pinch where ever we can.

I got WIC with both kids for a while. It was hastle for me to go to the apts but only because they apts were by my house, and they only did them during work hours so when I was at work. It was such a pain to get my son from daycare, go to the 5min apt go back to daycare and come back to work. Work is far from where I live. But it did help with the milk, we got gallons and gallons of milk! I breastfed part time so I got formula too, but not alot. Once I was no longer breastfeeding I got 9 cans of formula. So I guess if you have the time, its worth it!

Yes you do. Once they stop needing formula and baby food then you get milk, bread, cheese, etc for each child

I think you only have to go to an appointmsnt every 6 months (i could be wrong as its been a few years and my memory sucks) but if you breastfed they give you coupons for food to help you. If you formula feed they ask you how much your baby eats and will give you coupons to get enough formula each month. Either way, if you qualify, i would go ahead and take it. You can use the money you would have spent buying those items on other necessities.

I think you get more food if you have another child under the age of 5

Their are different offices, but you have to go to the one closest to your residence. So I cant go to an office anywhere near work.

This! Since its for women, infants, and children they should give you enough of what thsy offer for the other children depensing on the household income.
