Smoking

posted 28th Dec
Before I was pregnant I was a heavy smoker (a pack a day). A week after I found out I was pregnant I gave up cold turkey.
Anyways lately iv been really craving one, and if I smell a smoke, it makes me want one even more.
I'd love to be able to stay off them after the baby is born, but I think I'm going to cave in.
Did you find it easier to stay off them while pregnant, or after you had the baby?

I quit the day after I found out I was pregnant, I breastfed so I was able to stay away from them for a long time but eventually went back to it :/

Honestly I should have never started again, I kick myself in the ass for it all the time. After going so long without smoking its kind of stupid to go back to it know what I mean?

Smoking around a newborn (even if you're smoking outside) dramatically increases the risk of SIDS.
I don't know what more motivation is needed to quit..

She already quit, she was asking how to stay away from smoking after having the baby.

Yea I get what you mean. I did it with my son. I bottle fed with him, and as soon as he was born, I wanted a smoke instantly.

I have/would never smoke around a newborn, or any child for that matter. A smoke has never been lit inside my house, and there is no way I would even smoke outside around mine or any child.

I think she meant like even if you go outside away from your children to smoke. Even though you're outside the smoke permeates into your hair and clothing, then you go inside and pick up your little newborn, and the smoke does get on them and they do smell it.

Its best to have a "smoking jacket" that you only wear outside and smoke in. Any jacket will do, its just to try to keep most of the smoke off of your clothing. Take it back off outside and leave it there, then go in and wash your hands right away.

And I gave her something to remember and motivate her.

Yep that'a actually called 3rd hand smoke. the smoke smell on the persons cloth and hair can be hazardous to the health of children. Studies show that children of people who only smoke outside have increased risks for illness like people who smoke in the house. It's less but still there

Oh I only quoted you because you had said it was motivation to quit but she already had quit. Now she just needs to keep it that way

GL OP, its hard but you can do it.

I think il be fine as long as I stay away from others that smoke. SO even gave up with me to make it easier for me. He has the strongest willpower and even though he is around smokers everyday at work, he never feels like one. So I think as long as I have him by my side encouraging me I will be fine

Dramatically? 3rd hand smoke actually hasn't been found to dramatically increase SIDS. As a matter of fact, 3rd hand smoke is never even mentions in risk factors for SIDS. It is smoking while pregnant and smoking directly around your baby, and even those 2 don't DRAMATICALLY increase risks of SIDS. Anyways... she already quit... she was asking about how ppl are in the similar situation did after the birth and how hard it was for them to stay away.

My SIL quit smoking cold turkey with both pregnancies...but started back up shortly after. I think if you can quit for that long then there's no point in starting back up.
