I used to work with a C4 quadriplegic that had a Phd in Social Work and worked full time for the department of humans services. I have a paraplegic that works IT at my current job, and a manager that is 100% blind. I also used to take a ventilated quadriplegic to university where they were getting their degree in English teaching.

Not everyone can afford that kind of education in order to move on through life and getting grants for a 60 year old woman probably isn't easy.

Yeah, unfortunately things are a lot different here and most people can't achieve college educations without receiving loans or grants at some capacity (and acquiring those things as an older person who is severely disabled isn't easy--it would be a full time job all its own and navigating all of that would be near impossible for someone so limited unless they have immense amounts of help).

I pay something called HECS for university education .... the government pays your full tuition fees and then gives you 25 years to pay it off but only when you're earning in excess of $46,000.

Unfortunately something like this is too sensible for the U.S. to adopt

When I was earning $55,000 a year I was paying $88 a fortnight out of my taxes towards my HECS debt.
