Could it be from constipation?

posted 27th Dec
DD has been constipated pretty much since she was born. She had regular stool for a few months and now she's back to her old ways. I don't understand it. Nothing in her diet even changed.

SO anyway, she had a little red blood in her poop earlier. It was really hard as always, and I'm figuring it was just from her straining so hard, but could it be from something else?

I had to take her to the ER a few weeks ago because she had white poop. They did an X-ray on her stomach and didn't find anything.

up her water intake, fruits and veggies. Lower her dairy and heavy meats
Also prune juice is good to keep things flowing.

She could have a hemorrhoid that caused the blood. How old is she?

18 months old in a few days. Wouldn't they have seen that in the X-ray?

Probably is from straining.
How old is she? What do you do to help her poops?

You would think so. Maybe not then, I would get a second opinion if they said nothing was wrong.

18 months in a few days. We use laxatives cut in fourths.

Which laxative?
What foods do you avoid?

You should really try to avoid laxatives as they make baby dependent on them and makes baby even more easily constipated. try what i posted above.

She hardly ever eats meat, though. She does drink a lot of milk. But also a lot of juice mixed with mostly water. I don't use them that often, maybe every few days. Her doctor prescribed Miralax powder to mix with water but she won't drink it.

Ok. I'm going to bed but here is my advice.
I used to be a pediatric nutritionist and spent time in a GI office and I have a 4 y/o that is prone to constipation.

- avoid bananas, rice, applesauce and tea
- give FULL strength juice. Diluting it won't help. Mix the miralax in th juice
- give her fruits and veggies like raisins, peaches, pears, plums and prunes
- limit milk to 16 ounces per day.

The above will help. You may not need miralax.
If her poops are really hard right now, give her a glycerin suppository or enema so it's not so painful that she starts withholding her poops.... Which she might be doing already as they are painful.

Sorry, but your doc didn't give you good advice about miralax and water and not telling you some basics.
