Poop trained

posted 27th Dec
I feel like we'll never get Chris poop trained. He's 100% good with pee, it's the poop he still asks for diapers or waits until bedtime diaper to go. He was doing real good pooping in the potty for a few days and then he began holding it until we'd put a diaper on for bedtime and then he'd go in his bedtime diaper. He's going off to preschool in a month and needs to be 100% trained both poop and pee. What do I do to get him poop trained? I've tried toys, stickers, candy, bribery of any kind. I went as far as getting a Thomas potty seat to go on big potty or offering small Elmo potty but he won't do it on neither. He refuses to poop in undies and holds it   I feel at such a loss.

He will do it when he is ready. Which means that preschool might not happen for him right away.

I've found it's just something that comes with time...   It took DD a good month to get comfortable with going poop on the potty.

Anthony does the same thing. He wears underwear all day and hasn't had a pee accident for a long time but will ask for a pullup or go hide in a corner when he has to poop. A lot of kids, from what I've noticed especially boys, take longer to poop on the potty.

Do I just give him the diaper to poop in until he's ready to use the toilet?

I don't know    I'm in the same situation. The child psychiatrist at my job, Anthony's pediatrician, Anthony's preschool teachers, and advice from other Moms have all been conflicting.

I have heard both sides too. I've heard he'll poop in the potty when he's ready...just give him a diaper to go when he asks.

And then I've heard make him wait until he's in action and set him on potty (which he then holds it until his tummy hurts).

I just gave in and gave him a diaper tonight. He kept holding his belly crying.

What I ended up doing for my daughter is putting a diaper on her to poop then bring her into the bathroom to put the poop into the potty and having her flush it. It took a while for her to get the courage to go, but I think it helped a bit.

LOL I'm sorry I have to laugh because my son does it too and makes me insane - boys are so strange that they actually beg us to poop on themselves in a pullup. It's so weird! You would think it would bother them.

That's super smart. Maybe he'll link the two together.
