Eh I'd have said something ridiculous to him   What an ass, it's not really his place to say anything regarding your child's health.

I hate when people say smurf like that, it is irritating as hell. I have been told that about having ADD & learning disabilities...they have no smurfing clue what it is like to have smurf like that going on, and then for someone to say "it is all in your head" that just pisses me off.

They don't have a clue! No one understands unless they're going through it.

I would NEVER put LO on depression medicine until he was over 18.

Not because I think it is all in his head, but I would do everything I couldnt before I went to that extreme. Depression medication made me ten times more suicidal as a teenager and I wouldnt want LO to feel the way I felt on it.

Anyhow, I would just ignore your FIL and leave your personal medial information out of your conversations with him.

I have a severe case of bipolar. I was misdignosed for years since 13. Hit 15 abd finally got put on medication that helps me. I actually am still taking it while pregnant because its highly dangerous for me to go off. I believe in meds 100%. I do believe you can over medicate and some meds make you worse.

I was put on it at 12 and.it helped me. At 16 my sister had a stroke and the stress triggered my bipolar. My senior year was so bad I was suicidal, that's how I found out I had bipolar actually. Now I don't feel sad anymore, I'm actually happy.

I'm on lithium. I stopped taking it while pregnant but got back on it after he was born.

I have alot of problems too, and the meds all made it worse for me. I took myself off of everything, and decided I wasnt going to be depressed anymore. Other than the occasional PTSD problems, I'm doing great now, and have been for the last 4 years. However, it doesnt work for everyone, and I have never met anyone who is bipolar that could go off of the meds for long periods of times without having issues. Different things work for different people, and he shouldnt be judgmental of whatever you decide is best for your child regardless.

At one point and time i was on 1,500 mg of lithium and it made me gravly sick ad made my bipolar worse. I have mixed episode, rapid cycle type A. I will have multiple huge episode in one day instead of every week or longer. The only meda that have ever helped me are trileptal and lamactal.

this is true, i was on a bipolar medicine as a teen and it made it sooo much more worse. i eventually started hiding my medicine under my tongue to make my mom think i took it and then spit it out down the toilet.. thats when i started cutting..when i got the meds.

all those smurf with your head. my daughter has been taking epilepsy meds which can also be used as depression meds and its disturbing the difference i see in her, at only 5 years old. id rather try essential oils or something first.
