Should I take him to the ER?

posted 27th Dec
I'm positive my son has an ear infection, his ears have been hurting for a few days and he now has a fever. He doesn't have a pedi since we moved, should I just take him to the ER?

I'd take him to an urgent care before an ER.

If he can hold off until morning I would wait and take him to Urgent Care, much cheaper. Try a dose of tylenol or ibuprofen for the fever.

Put olive oil in his ears and give him some ibuprofen and take him in the morning.

Absolutely not! If his eardrums are perforated this can cause severe problems. Never put anything in the ears without a doctor okay!

Urgent care would cost me money I don't have now, if I take him to the ER I don't have to pay it now and can wait until I get his medicaid card.

No, urgent care maybe, that's not an emergency situation

ER's are for emergencies. This is not an emergency...

This. I would say urgent care but I know we don't have those around here sonif where you are is like here, ER is really your only option. But I would get him a new PCP (primary care provider) ASAP. They are going to ask you who it is at the ER and they will want you to have a follow up with his PCP for an ER visit.

I use garlic oil for ear infections - garlic is antibiotic. Try that if you can and if not I would go to the ER if you can't afford urgent care. I know the one here is outrageously expensive!

Yeah, it's $150 here, in NY it was only $60, I would pay the $150 if I wouldn't have to pay for the medication as well but that's not an option.
