Oh.. I'm the one insulting.. All that you're saying is like an utopia.. It's so far away from the reality itself!

The people who I know of on assistance? They're either a student, recently suffered a job loss, or recently divorced. All temporary situations.

But you do realize that once people are off assistance and working that they are paying RIGHT back to the system , yes? Like a loan.

The people who I know of on assistance? Most of them are skipping their own taxes, enjoying benefits, having kids in a row.. And not even trying to find jobs.. They're just living off the government because it's "much easier" and in a crappy job they'd receive the exact same money that they did while on welfare.. So it's their comfort zone.. much more "convenient" for them.

We just know different people, then.

Quoting LolaMcKitten:" Yeah? And how much of your taxes goes to things you don't approve of? I'm not going to get my panties ... [snip!] ... believe in and other kinds of crap I don't approve of - the few people who TTC while on welfare is the least of my worries. "

It's a moot point. The government's JOB, is to fund defense in this country. Taxes are SUPPOSE to pay for that. Taxes are NOT, however, supposed to pay for people who continuously have children that they, themselves, cannot support. How can you defend people having kids on the taxpayers dime?

People having an "oops" baby, that was trying to be prevented, is one thing. But there are generations of people in this country that live off of welfare and continue to have (either planned or not trying to prevent) children despite their lack of means to support them.

I am SPECIFICALLY talking about people like the OP talked about.

It's not a moot point at all. We go way beyond what is needed for defense of our country. And so was I - I don't waste my time getting pissy when there are bigger things our taxes go to that I don't agree with.

It IS a moot point if you actually know and understand what the government should and should not be paying for.

Agreed. You don't have to agree with it. For whatever it is worth, I don't agree with the war money being spent and think our many military fronts are ridiculous. I'm a bit Libertarian in that regard, but come on, you think planning a family while on government assistance is smart? It doesn't seem a bit like a slap in the face to you?

I have a problem with spending, all the way around. I also have a problem with people who take advantage of welfare. Welfare fraud is rampant. It just seems like a lose/lose when government money is thrown at people like it grows on trees and there are so many hands out, willing to grab it, no matter the detriment to the taxpayers and the economy.

Some poeple will get right back on their feet and pay taxes. But, as it stands right now, almost half of our country doesnt pay any fedral income tax. So, until they are at least middle-income they arent paying anything into the system. Then, they START to pay into the whole enchilada of our federal system. Depending on how temporary the stint on assistamce was, it can take many, many years to just pay back the exact dollar figure of the benefits recieved. And then, you can figure that they are paying the tab for all the other federal programs that everyone else has either been paying for or that our government has been borrowing for.
