To me, sucking off the system implies that the people are lazy leeches who aren't trying to better themselves. I don't think that is the case for half or even most of people on welfare.

I do think that TTCing a fourth child on welfare could constitute as an abuse though.

I dont think the question is about assisance. It's about SHOULD people TTC when unable to feed, clothe and shelter themselves.

And I have said multiple times that I don't agree with TTC - but this girl has her head up her ass thinking that anyone who does get pregnant on assistance MUST have been trying and that they are all just lazy smurfs. No - sorry, that is NOT the case.

I don't find people using food stamps to feed their family as "leeching". If they already had the kids they had and then needed food stamps, how is that leeching? Because that's what has happened to a good chunk of recipients. I know very few people truly acting like a parasite. If I'm even aware of someone being on assistance (and I don't ask or pay much attention but it sometimes gets brought up), their kids are school age or near school age and they have been on them for a year or less. I truly do not know of anyone who has been collecting for years.

that isnt my definition. Anyone who is using tax-payer money for basic necessities in life (FS, section 8, TANF, heating oil, etc) is sucking from the system. It's not about being lazy or not. It's just a look at the facts.

Exactly. A lot of people got knocked on their ass when the recession hit, it doesn't mean that they don't work or they aren't trying to get out.

I think it is the wording/semantics that I'm disagreeing with. Sucking = abuse/fraud of the system, imo.

I have no problem with those truly in need of the safety net programs using them. But, they are still leeching from the system unless they are paying their own way.
I woldnt use disparaging words to describe them, but the behavior is certainly not self-sufficiency and it's not neutraility.

That's how I see it, too. "Sucking" to me implies fraud of some sort.

As someone said above, the word "leeching" implies that they are acting like a parasite which also implies that they have no desire to remove themselves from the situation. There's a difference between leeching and needing to use a safety net.

But it is a loan. If it's temporary, they'll end up paying back what they used, will they not?

I make everyone? lol.. I suggest you read the messages I've posted in this thread, including one in which I said that YES, there are people who work their asses off & still need welfare and that's FINE. Now, there are people who are the opposite and there are LOTS of that, too.

If you just want to take the discussion like a 12 year-old and start disrespecting people, it's up to you. I'm over that kind of thing.
