When was your child diagnosed with ADD/ADHD?

posted 27th Dec
I told my friend about how DD and I were in the ER last night because she was having an asthma issues. My friend asked if she has ever been tested for ADD/ADHD because she's always so hyper or active and what not, even when she wasn't on her inhalers, which make her more hyped up. She said compared to other kids she's known DD's age, DD is way more "bouncy" i guess you can say she put it. She's only 3. I have always just thought that she was a happy go lucky kid. I took it a little offensive that she asked me that, idk if that was wrong to feel that way, I tried not to because she always just tells me what she sees and what she thinks whether I like to hear it or not.

i know here they wont diagnose a child until age 5. IMO she may just be being a child. she is only 3 and i dont see how you cn keep a 3 yrold still. Children are hyper. i would just wait.

My cousins son turned 4 in september. He is always bouncing off the walls, he is very mean and aggressive and only needs like 3 hours of sleep and hes good to go all day. She told the doc all of this and he said that they won't test until he is 5 or 6. Told her to just deal with it. It is to the point where I don't want my son near him because he scares me.

That's my thought as well. I feel like she's just still testing her boundaries and what not. idk ..

I was diagnosed with ADD at 6, one of my younger brothers at 5 with ADD and my youngest brother was diagnosed with ADHD at 6. My daughter however is bouncy and overly talkative and doesn't slow down for nothing, but so far hasn't been diagnosed with either. If you are curious, you could always ask your doctor about it and see if you can get your daughter tested.

I definitely haven't heard it be done before school age. And most doctors require a paper filled out by a teacher before prescribing medication.

I mean she doesn't bounce off the walls or anything. She just gets super excited and happy about things and runs around, to me, like a normal kid. Ya, she can act a little nutzo at times, but that's usually when she's been stuck in the house all day and hasn't been able to let all that energy out.

ya, DD can be over talkative too, but I think she just likes to talk lol.

I can see where my friend is coming from, but I don't think DD is so "crazy" that she would be diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. But it is something I can talk to her doctor about.

Do they give him soda/sugar/food coloring?I have noticed much of the time ADHD and such can be somewhat fixed if the parents stop giving certain foods that the children are sensitive to. My son is only 2 1/2 but cracks the eff out if he has any sugar at all and doesn't like to sleep at night... so we stopped giving him all sugar and he's fine now...and I mean all processed sugar even in cereals ect...

I 100% believe there are dietary plans that can be put into place in order to keep a child calmed down... I had to learn about it some in my abnormal psychology class and I trust it to be true due to numerous personal experiences.

Heres a link on it:

OOH! and fish oil helps to for some reason. Studies have shown great results.
