When to call l&d about baby?

posted 27th Dec
Stemming from my earlier post. Its now 6 and my baby still hasnt really moved. Im shaking my belly and patting him, drank juice and he has missed his usual wake up times. Yes, he has given VERY small barly noticeable shifts. My hospital is 40 minutes away, i dont want to get there and then he decides to wake up. But i dont want to wait to long or something. Is this serious enough to call the after hours or emergency number?

ETA: he did have the hiccups once today but was told that doesnt count

So exactly how many hours had LO been inactive? Gave you tried drinking ice water or something sugary??

He is probably sleeping. If you know how much newborn's sleep, you will understand.

I would stick a plate in the freezer and then put it face down on your belly after it is super cold. If you feel nothing, go ahead and go in to get some peace of mind.

Yesterday at my apt i felt 3 pops and since then he's been acting like this. Last night thought he was just being lazy. This morning comes around and he is usually active then, he wasnt. Ive drank juice and lots of water and have been trying to provoke him

Why don't hiccups count?
The baby needs to be alive to be able to hiccup.

But I wouldn't worry too much. My LO has slowed down her movement a lot in the past 2 days, thank god. He could just be super active when you're asleep so you aren't noticing it as much. Plus he's running out of room so it's normal for movement to decrease a bit.

That's so odd.
I haven't been told anything about kick counts from my doctor but I just figured that hiccups are a sign that the babys fine.

You should call L&D & see what the advice nurse thinks. I'm 36w1d & my son will go hours without much movement & then he'll be active like crazy... Pushing around my belly usually doesn't disturb him so when I really want to wake him up to check on him, I do some light cardiovascular aerobics... Give that a try & see if your lo responds...

Baby can get hiccups if cord is wrapped around the neck but still wont move. Thats why they dont count as baby being fine.

I didn't know they could get hiccups if there was a problem like that.
I'm gonna be a bit more paranoid now lol.

yep my doctor told me the only time to worry is if baby wasnt moving. That hiccups dont count as a movement because they can get hiccups even though there is a serious problem like the cord being wrapped around the neck or the cord being pinched. Hiccups of course are natural but you still want to make sure baby is moving enough.
