Question about health insurance

posted 27th Dec
Okay so I've been looking at different insurance policies for the state of North Carolina. I applied for Medicaid but I realized the doctors office I been going to since my miscarriage does not accept it and I would hate to leave that office so I was looking into getting insurance that they accept. Now my question is all of the policies I was looking at does not include maternity plans. I do plan on ttc very soon and would need that plan wouldn't I? What insurance policies do you ladies have? Should I get a basic insurance policy and not worry about the maternity plan or what?

I'm in Louisiana but the only insurance carrier here that offers individual insurance with maternity is Blue Cross. I know nothing about Medicaid though.

Same in North Carolina and they are so expensive! What kind of insurance do you have? Does it cover your maternity visits?

We have insurance through Hubbys work and it said something about an additional maternity plan when reading through the book but I went through my 2nd pregnancy without needing it or hearing anything about it and they still covered everything. (We have BCBS).

I have Kaiser. It covers pretty much everything for a copay.

So If I apply for just basic insurance will the obgyn office still see me even when I get pregnant? I don't want to have insurance and then its a problem when my insurance don't cover the maternity visits .

i have insurance thru work (BC/BS federal) and maternity is covered. if you're planning on TTC, i would get one that covers maternity services just in case you DO conceive right away (since you said you prefer to stay at the office you're currently going to and they don't accept medicaid). you wouldn't want to have to try to switch coverage

It is expensive. I pay $388 a month for a PPO with a $2500 deductible. It's not great but its something. People who are on their spouses insurance through their work usually have maternity covered on a group plan. It's much harder to get an individual policy with good maternity (not on group plan).

I would call to make sure but I never signed up for the "maternity plan" thing and everything was covered. I conceived before I was on his insurance too (we got married in May and put on his insurance by June and I conceived in April).

I was looking at the BCBS individual plan for my daughter and I an it was 319 a month (according to the quote) it may be alittle cheaper when I actually apply for it and it covers maternity. I might just go with that.

I would def get a maternity plan if you are ttc. I've never heard of an insurance policy covering maternity services without adding maternity unless its a group plan. I'm an insurance agent btw. Health insurance is not my specialty, though my employer does write it.
