Being Induced
posted 27th Dec
I have decided to be induced on January 25, 2013. Not because I am sick of being pregnant, I love it. But my baby is currently almost 6 lbs. If she keep gaining 1/2 lb a week she is going to be a big baby. Plus I am worried that my doctor won't be there if I go into labor naturally and I really like my doctor.
My sister shared her induction stories with me and I know her labor went good with all three kids.
I am so excited, Cory is a nervous wreck. Which is completely hilarious because he already has two kids and I have none. But we are both happy.

I have a feeling you will get smurf for this.
Your body is made to labor a baby. People push 10lbs babies out. Its no reason to get induced.
Just my opinion though.

You know the weight estimates could be off by a pound or more and not every baby gains the same it's just an average.

Weight estimates can be off by lbs either way.

You don't know if your baby weighs 6 lbs....

Mine was estimated to be at 6 lbs, 13 oz at 36 weeks. She was 8 lbs, 13 oz at birth (40w3d)...I had an easy, 9-hour labor with about 5 minutes of pushing.
My last ultrasound (40 weeks) had estimated her to be at 9 lbs, 1 oz.
Ultrasounds can be off. And a big baby doesn't mean a hard labor. Don't let them induce you unless it's medically necessary.

Even if your baby DID gain 1/2lb a week, they would only be around 8lbs at your due date, which is not an overweight baby. I mean if you want an induction go for it, but the reasoning makes no sense.

agreed my bigger baby was my easier one and labor was half the time as my little baby

I wouldn't be induced. Your baby WOULD only be 8 lbs. I had a 8lb 4oz baby ALL natural. I was almost 42 weeks pregnant too.
Inductions don't always go smoothly.

My baby stopped growing at 35 weeks. You don't know that she is going to continue growing at a fast rate. I was induced it was the way my baby needed to come. But I would have preferred to let her stay in as long as she needed to.

Weights can be off, plus, having an induction forced increases the chance of having a C-Section.
And I liked my doctor, too. But guess what? He was only there to catch the baby. You really won't care whether or not he/she's there when the time comes.
Good for your sister. Too bad everyone has different labor experiences.

My induction was terrible...my natural labor was easier by

same here... I only saw the Dr right in the end and for a few minutes here and there all the rest of it was all done by the nurses...

I never said her weight was the reason for the induction. My main reason is because I want MY doctor to deliver my baby. She has been with me every step of the way and I don't want to go through labor without her.
