Daycare will not 'NOT' feed him

posted 27th Dec
My son has CT scans with sedation every 4 months. I cant feed him after bedtime till after the scans which he doesnt have till anywhere between 1 and 4 in the afternoon the next day. It is a very stressful day to say the least. Now that he is in daycare I thought itd help and take the stress off both of us for the morning, but...I cant send him as the teachers can not refuse him food, so if he wants snack, they have to allow it to him.

I understand it to a point, but when its doctor ordered why can they not follow it? I can see if a parent was just a smurf face and punished their child by taking away food that the daycare would not follow that (thank God)....but how is it fair to me that my son cant go to day care that day and has to be punished further by staying home, hungry, waiting for his hospital appointment.

Thoughts?

They can't do that?
You're his parent and if you say no, for a good reason they should respect that.

that would be unfair to him for you to send him there where all the other kids will be eating.

I think that's unfair especially if it's ordered by a doctor!

Because they don't want to deal with a mad child hungry watching other kids eat.   I'm sure you son will be much happier getting cuddles from you when he's hungry over being around people he likes but doesn't have that bond with.

Since daycares are licensed and regulated through the state, I'm guessing it's a state regulation that they cannot refuse to feed a child. Their hands are probably tied.

not to mention, I understand you wanting to reduce the stress on yourself and him as well but being in daycare and watching the other kids eat when he can't would probably cause him more distress

Here if a doctor orders the restriction and faxes a note to the daycare, we have to follow it.

But IMO it's kind of an smurf move to send the kid to daycare so he can sit hungry while all the other kids get snack time.

I would just keep him home on those days to limit the temptation of seeing the other kids eating.

However coming from the daycare perspective, no they cannot legally with hold food from a child even with the medical need because it is considered abuse.

The daycare does that to cover their asses. The adults know not to give it to him but the other kids do not. Also if a teacher is busy and passing out snack she may forget plus it would be wrong for the whole class to be smacking on a snack while your child is forced to starve.
It truly sucks but I see why they do it.
